The Browns

“I am Alpha Vincent,” he stated. Katie continued to glare at him. He looked up at me and smiled. 

“Well, Alpha, thank you for letting us stay.” Katie said and walked to my side. “Come on mom, let's go find Eric.”

Vincent let out a little growl. I shook my head at him. “Katie darling, why don’t you go downstairs and help Mrs. Brown or go see if Eric needs anything. I have something I need to discuss with the Alpha.”

“I will not let him hurt you.” Katie said, still glaring at Vincent. Who looked at me shocked. I shrugged my shoulders. 

“He won’t. Plus, don’t you know that I am strong, and I can take an Alpha.” I said, looking at her. Vincent chuckled. Which earned him a glare from both of us. 

Luckily, Kaite listened and started to walk away but she turned around and said “If you aren’t down in 10 minutes I am sending Eric up to get you.”

With that, she was gone. Vincent looked at me. “Did you tell her what happened?” 

“No. Katie has always had an ability to read a room. She is also very stealthy, so she may have overheard something Eric or the Browns said.” I shrugged it off. “Or it could be because of my last mate who I told you was vile. He was a Beta and he threatened Katie to get me to behave.”

Vincent growled. “I’m sorry. It just makes me so mad that someone touched you.” I gave him a look that said he did the same. “I know I am one to talk right. That will never happen again. My wolf took control, and I couldn't stop him. I didn’t come here for this. I came to ask if you and Katie would join us. I guess Eric is the favorite of all the girls.”

“He is very charming.” I teased, hitting Vincent in the arm when he growled again. “You know I think Katie has a crush on Eric. I hope he doesn’t break her heart. First crushes are hard when they don’t work out.”

“Oh…talking from experience?” Vincent inquired. 

“Maybe another time. We need to get downstairs. Mrs. Brown had been looking forward to this dinner all day.” With that, we were off.

I was seated between Vincent and Katie. Eric and Reagan sat across from us with Brown’s at the head of the table. The food was amazing: Parmesan chicken, fettuccini alfredo, bread sticks to die for. 

The Browns broke out a bottle of wine with dessert, which was a cannoli. The sweetness of the wine was so wonderful, I unknowingly closed my eyes and groaned with pleasure. I could feel the heat pouring off of Vincent.

When I opened my eyes, everyone, but Katie, was looking at me. I could feel my cheeks turn red. Vincent was gripping his chair so tight I thought it would break. Eric was trying to look everywhere but me, without success. 

“Sorry I have never tasted such a delicious dessert. I was only able to have what I made when I was at the DeMond Tree and I wasn’t allowed much food at Dark Moon.” I said, very embarrassed.

“My wife is an excellent cook.” Mr. Brown said.

“This is amazing! You should learn to make them momma.” Katie said, looking at me.

“Yes, Mrs. Brown, I would love to help you in the kitchen and clean around the house when we stay here. It is the least I can do,” I said.

Vincent, still staring at me beat Mrs. Brown to the punch. “You will do no such thing. No Luna of mine is going to do cleaning like an Omega!”

“Excuse me everyone.” I started to get up when Vincent grabbed my arm to stop me. 

This got Katie’s attention and she screamed. “Do not touch my mom!” She threw her chair back and kicked Vincent.

“Katie, that is not how we act.” I scolded. “This is Alpha Vincent and you will show respect.”

She began to cry. “He called you Luna. This can’t be right. I don’t want him to be your mate. He hit you like Dane did. I know because I felt it.”

We were all looking at Katie and Vincent had dropped my arm. 

“What do you mean you felt it?” I asked.

“Like I could see your purple magic before you knew you were magic. I can just see and feel things. I know it is not what you are supposed to do, so I won’t talk about it.” She began to cry and ran to hug me. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”

Thinking about this makes sense why an Omega orphan would have created such love in a community. If she could sense or maybe even manipulate feelings, but how? “It is OK baby, we will discuss this later. Please apologize to Alpha Vincent.”

“I am sorry, but I still do not want you to hurt my mom again.” She said, glaring at Vincent. During this time, the Browns had moved stealthily to the living room.

Vincent knelt to Katie who was still hanging onto my waist and spoke with calm. “I will never do that again. I was very angry, but that is not an excuse. I promise it was a mistake and I will work every day to earn your and your mom’s forgiveness.” 

With that, he looked up at me. Katie looked up as well. “Mom, I am tired. Can I go to bed?”

“Yes, you can. I will be along shortly.” I said as she began to walk out of the room. Once she was gone, Vincent ran his hand threw his hair and growled. 

“What have I done?” He said, collapsing in a chair. “She could feel your pain. It is like I hit both of you. How can you forgive me now? I know you are going to hate me now, knowing I hurt Katie.”

I looked at him. Took a deep breath of his scent and walked over to him. Standing right in front of where he was sitting, I put a hand on his back. I could feel the tingles running through my hand. He slowly looked up at me. 

I took another breath to calm me and said, “You need to work on your anger. So does Katie for that matter, but I think her emotions thrive on others.” He hung his head. I knelt in front of him so I could look into his deep eyes. “I promised I would give you a chance and forgiveness is part of that. I want you to get one thing straight. You cannot boss me around. I am not your Luna and bossing me around is not a way to win me over. I grew up a Beta, then lower than an Omega. Me helping out and cooking is the only thing I have to show my gratitude for all they have done and are doing.”

“I just don’t like the idea of my mate cooking and cleaning like an Omega,” he said.

“I was an Omega.” I responded. “What is wrong with that? Maybe the moon goddess sent me to you so you can learn some humility. If it weren’t for Omega’s, your pack wouldn’t be fed, houses, clothes and other things would be in disrepair. I am not ashamed of my past. It was hard but I survived. If I do get to be a leader one day, that will change.”

He pulled me into his lap. “When?” He kissed me deep and passionately. I moved from being cradled in his lap to straddling him. Never parting our lips. His hands started to roam over my back end and up my sides.

I heard the dining room door open and I quickly tried to right myself, to no avail, as I almost fell off Vincent’s lap. He pulled me back to him, so now I was sitting on his lap like a child.

Mrs. Brown walked in. “Oh! I am sorry. I was just coming in to clear up the plates. It looks like you two are working it out. I can get these in a bit.” She smiled and left again.

“I will help after I walk Vincent out.” He made a bit of a moan. 

“I still don’t like the idea of you doing that work,” he said.

“I want to help. There is nothing wrong with that,” I said as I got off his lap. He stood up and we headed for the door. At the door, he grabbed my hand and kissed it. “See, I can be prince charming too, he said.” I pulled my hand back with a laugh.

He took me in his arms and kissed me passionately. I didn’t want the kiss to stop. But when it did, we were both breathing heavily and resting our foreheads together. “Until Friday’s training, I said.”

As he started to walk away, I thought Friday couldn’t come soon enough. Was I falling for Vincent or was it just the mate bond?
