Chapter 37 - Traitor

How could this perfection be mine? 

His lips were parted so wonderfully with soft breaths escaping them. His rich and thick chestnut curls hung around his forehead and that short groomed beard emphasised his masculine face. The blankets had worked their way down leaving his torso completely exposed for my eyes to feast on. Werewolves always seemed to possess the most mouthwatering physiques that tempted your fingers to trace every inch of their definitions. Their chest hair tempted your eyes to follow its line, wanting to see what lay further south. Now I realised why wolf men always held such an attraction to me, because I was destined to be with one. 

I chanced a caress of his abdomen, instantly inhaling at how every inch of my skin felt alive at his touch. It seemed more intense than anything I had heard anyone else describe and I knew no-one would ever compare to this man. As my hand continued to stroke the skin of his stomach I heard him moan deeply and looking up he held a wide smile on his face.

"Mmmmm, good boy likes his belly rubs," he grinned sleepily at me, opening a single eye.

"I'm beginning to believe the only time you behave is when you're unconscious," I narrowed my eyes playfully at him.

His smile widened, not denying my words and grasped the back of my neck to pull me down to his lips. He tasted like the sweet woodland of his scent that not even the maple trees could rival. I wondered whether there would ever be a time his kisses didn't leave me feeling dazed afterwards as I pulled away. His hands traced the pictures of my tattoos on my left arm, stilling at the four raised scars hidden under the artwork.

"Are these claw marks?" He asked as he traced the line of the tree that hid the scar.

I nodded. I had told him last night, as he ate, of my time living in a pack with my coven and how we came to the states after its collapse, but not of how the pack itself came to destruction.

"We never did know who attacked that pack that day but they were strong and organised, certainly not rogues. I covered the Alpha and the Luna's escape with their pup, they were quite special, very few hybrids are born from such fated mates...the wolf that did this had silver dipped claws, the metal reacts to our skin the same as it does to yours and left these scars…" 

They were just reminders of how I failed my coven, so I covered them to turn them into something new. They were a series of colourful, oriental style wolves, birds and trees that hid the scarring from my forearm to my deltoid. Jude traced the raised line that formed part of the tree's trunk with his fingers, kissing along it.

"You turned them into something really beautiful, not that they wouldn't have been on their own," he smiled softly up at me, without a hint of teasing.

I kissed him without hesitation, moving my lips against his with such need as he flipped us over so his weight pressed down upon me. His broad form encompassed me so completely and his warmth penetrated every ounce of my being. I understood fully, now, how werewolf mates could be so enamoured with each other after only a few hours as I now felt the same for him. 

"I think we better get up before your coven really do hear me besmirching your reputation," he smirked, as he ground his hips to mine making me gasp at the hardness of his appendage. And it wasn't just his own.

Dressed, we left my bedroom hand in hand, feeling no need to hide the fact we accepted each other. The children were already up and playing with their plants while the werewolf warriors that must have arrived in the night sat with them, enthralled by their display. Jude seemed so at ease playing with children after he had diffused the discomforting and teasing grins we received, even offering to play with them outside in his wolf form while Alpha Ethan had graciously organised a large breakfast to feed all the expectant mouths now housed under our small roof. I was as enthusiastic as the children to see his wolf, my other counterpart in our relationship, though I showed more outwardly restraint in my avidity.

While Jude left to shift and speak with his Alpha outside, I took the four children upstairs to bundle them up as much as possible. They wouldn't be able to stay out for long, we were distinctly lacking proper winter clothing for them. I picked Thyme up to carry her down the stairs with the boys as her little legs had a tendency to move faster than she could actually keep up with when she was eager for something. 

He had already shifted as Ethan walked past me back inside, letting me know there would be clean clothing for Jude waiting for him just inside when we were done. 

His wolf was stunning. 

The same rich chestnut colour as his human form, coated his wolf, looking equally soft and inviting. I held out my hand as his wolf approached, nuzzling my palm and rubbing his body up against my own. I knew what such behaviour from one of his kind meant, he was scent marking me, claiming me as his. It made me contemplate whether he could mark me as werewolves did, could I mark him? I had always hated my neck being touched by another but when he had kissed me there...when his teeth grazed my skin, a desire like no other had exploded within my soul, as though my body knew that site was Jude's and Jude's alone.

His attention turned to the children as they started to throw snow at him. He chased them through the drifts, let them ride on his back and chased after the snowballs they threw for him. Just simply watching him, being playful yet protective, thoughts and visions flashed within my mind of what he would be like with our own...this was insane to be thinking about! I had barely known him half a day and most of that was spent sleeping...in his arms...dear goddess there was nothing that could have prepared me for such intensities, I could see now why wolves had a penchant for the dramatic.

Their play was distracted by the warriors returning with breakfast and their empty stomachs won out against their games as they headed inside to eat. Once gone, I heard Jude come to shift and stand by my side, making me look at him by instinct and avert my eyes just as fast, seeing him in his naked state...why must wolf males be so goddess-damn large in all their aspects. The icy air suddenly seemed to be wildly insufficient against my hot skin.

"You seriously blushing about seeing me naked?" I did not need to glance his way to see his teasing smirk.

"It's not as though we vampires walk about the world naked like you wolves do," I said, trying to state a more obvious excuse, though I doubt it would be bought.

"Don't worry, I'll be getting you use to it real soon. We won't be needing clothes for a good long while once I get you back home," that prospect made my throat tighten, among other things. But I did not take lightly to his assumption I would simply fall into bed with him.

"You seem awfully sure of yourself, wolf," I challenged.

"And you seem awfully turned on right now, sweetheart," he smirked back triumphantly.

It irked me further that I had no rebuttal to his words and I chose to walk away before I gave him any more encouragement. I heard his devilishly attractive laugh behind me as he quickly fell into step beside me, taking my hand in his and entwining our fingers together once more.

I was certainly no virgin but this man was different to my past partners. He was no casual affair and his needs held a far greater significance to me. While I desired him increasingly, the prospect of meeting his needs had me uncharacteristically nervous...I was a little out of practice with such exploits.

Despite Jude's protests of not wanting in any way to partake in my vegan diet, he hadn't shown the slightest hesitation in stealing one of the maple and soy waffles from my plate and the look of amusement from his Alpha's face told me this was not an isolated case. With breakfast eaten and our meager possessions packed and stowed in my truck we split into our respective parties to make the long trip back. 

And I would be traveling with my soulmate, alone, in an enclosed space, for over five hours...what could possibly go wrong in this situation?Bonus
