 “Cooperate with us and both of you mates,” He touches my belly, “And your pups will live.”

 I look at where Tyler had been and see a pool of blood on the ground. Then I look at Marcellus with his red eyes staring back at me. “Y-you swear he will live?” I ask hesitantly.

 “I swear,” Marcellus responds. “And unlike you filthy mutts, I keep my promises.” 

 I take a deep breath, “I will cooperate.”

 Marcellus chuckles coldly and snaps his fingers. I am grabbed harshly, and my eyes are covered. I hate that, for now, I have to trust these vampires and allow them to do with me what they want, all to keep Tyler and Skylar alive. I am picked up, carried, and placed into what I assume to be a van. I sit quietly while it drives. I listen to Marcellus talk to someone else in the van. They speak French, though, so I don’t understand them.

 ‘Lilith?’ I call to my wolf.

 ‘I’m here,’ she whispers.

 ‘Why do you sound so down?’ I ask her to while knowing the answer.

 ‘One of my mates rejected me,’ She whimpers. ‘Pollux doesn’t accept the rejection, but it will still sever in three days unless- ‘Lilith trails off.

 ‘Unless what?’ I ask her.

 ‘Skylar must take back the rejection and mean it. If the Goddess doesn’t believe he is sincere, she will sever the bond for all of us,’ Lilith explains. ‘And she will take us with her.’

 ‘Us,” I question, and then my blood goes cold, ‘You don’t mean you- ‘

 ‘Yes, the goddess will take Castor, Pollux, and I from the three of you,’ Lilith sniffles. ‘You will all be mere humans, as will your pups.’

 My heart thrums against my chest as tears well up. ‘I love them, Lilith.’

 ‘I know you do, but love isn’t enough this time,’ She replies. 

 The van screeches to a stop, and I am thrown to the ground.

 “Espèce d’idiot,” I hear Marcellus say and I am lifted from the ground. The blindfold remains on as I am dragged somewhere else. “Welcome home,” Marcellus says with his arm around me. He removes the blindfold, and I find myself in a room I wasn’t expecting.

 It is large with a big bed with a fancy bedspread and what I assume will be silk sheets on it. The rest of the furniture looks like it came from some Victorian castle with big windows that look out over a large sparkling lake. There is a sitting area with a kitchen.

 I look at Marcellus, “What the hell is this?”

 “Your home,” He scoffs. “Don’t sound so ungrateful.”

 “Why? Why am I here?” I grumble.

 Marcellus gestures to a purple velvet couch. “Sit, and I will explain your role in all of this.” I sit, and Marcellus claps his hand, and a pale young woman with long black hair and wearing an old-fashioned velvet dress enters the room. She gives me a hard look. “This is Wilhelmina. You met her father, and your mate killed her mother.”

 Wilhelmina grimaces and shows me her fangs. She steps towards me, and Marcellus holds her back.

 “If there is anything you need, Wilhelmina will get it for you,” He explains. He looks at Wilhelmina, “Get us some drinks. What would you like?” He asks me.

 “My mates and my life back,” I respond.

 A dark grin appears on Marcellus’s face, “We may make that happen, but right now, what would you like to drink? I would recommend you don’t drink anything alcoholic.”

 “Just some tea, I guess,” I mutter, looking around the room.

 “Get us some tea, Wilhelmina, and don’t spit in it,” Marcellus instructs her.

 The young vampire glares at me before exiting the room.

 “She is going to kill me, isn’t she?” I gulp.

 “Not if she knows what is good for her,” Marcellus responds. “What do you think of your room?”

 “It’s nice for a prison,” I mutter.

 “This is no prison, Amber. You will be free to move around outside this room if you wish,” he tells me.

 “But I am trapped here, away from everyone I love,” I tell him. “It’s a prison.”

 “Everyone you love will be dead soon,” Marcellus says casually, and my heart sinks. “Oh, what, you are sad? I have lost everyone I love. You get used to it.” 

 I have to hold back tears as I realize this is my new reality. At least for now. “What about my babies?” I say while touching my belly. 

 “We’ll play that by ear,” Marcellus smirks as Wilhelmina returns with a tray. She sets it on the coffee table between Marcellus and me. “That’s enough for now,” He waves her off.

 Wilhelmina says nothing as she hurries out of the room. 

 Marcellus leans forward, picks up an ornately decorated teapot, and pours some brown tea into a cup. “Do you like sugar?” He asks. 

 I nod slowly, watch the vampire add sugar, and then hand the cup and saucer to me. I notice there are also biscuits and fruit on the tray. I pick up a biscuit, dip it into the tea, and take a bite.

 “That is some of the finest English tea one can buy,” Marcellus says with mild disgust. I lift an eyebrow, and he laughs. “I am French, so saying that goes against my nature. You know how the French and English dislike each other.”

 “I guess,” I shrug as I sip the tea. “Why am I here?” I ask and set the cup down.

 Marcellus stares at me for several moments. “You are here for your blood.”

 “Great,” I mutter.

 “Your blood is highly valuable. Warlocks use it for their spells. Vampires use it for power over other creatures and your kind,” He pauses. “Your kind uses it for strength. So, in other words, it's very lucrative to have you around. I have been trying to get one of your kind for a long time. Your grandmother and mother both proved difficult to obtain, but you,” He laughs. “Fell right into my hands.”

 “I thought you were going to tell me the truth about what happened to the royals,” I sigh.

 “I will do as I said,” Marcellus laughs. “As I said, I keep my promises.”

 “Great,” I pick up the teacup and take another sip. “So, what? I will just sit here while you milk me for my blood.”

 “Pretty much,” Marcellus replies. “And if one or more of your pups proves to be like you, we’ll milk them too.”

 I shudder at the thought of my innocent children being used as livestock. I refrain from telling him what Lilith told me. If I lose her, then my blood will be useless. 

 “You may be a commodity to me, but that doesn’t mean I will treat you poorly. And if you are cooperative, I may allow your mate or mates to come and visit occasionally. Especially if I can use them to make more of you,” He grins and stands up. “As I said, you are free to leave this room. My people will tell you when you have gone too far.”

 I look at him but say nothing.

 “Have a goodnight,” he says and walks out of the room.

 I stare at the door for some time before getting up. I walk towards the window to look out and plan an escape, but I discover the window is actually a mirror with a projected image on it. Sighing, I head towards the door and open it. I gasped when Wilhelmina appeared in front of me.

 “Would you like a tour?” She asks in a cold voice with an accent. 

 “You aren’t going to kill me?” I ask her.

 She shrugs, “Boss won’t let me do that.”

 “I freed your father,” I tell her. 

 “I know, but then your mate killed my mother,” She replies. “Do you want a tour or not?”

 “Fine, do I call you Wilhelmina?” I ask.

 “You can call me Mina if you prefer,” she huffs.

 “Fine,” I nod. “Let’s go on that tour then.”
