 Lilith howls sadly in my head as my chest hurts from Skylar’s rejection. I look at him through tears, not believing he had just done that. I know we have our differences, but I didn’t want to believe he would do that. 

 ‘Do not accept his rejection,’ Lilith says. ‘It will hurt the pups.’

 I barely hear what Carlton is saying but Tyler and Skylar both glare at him. I catch him talking about the deal I made with Victor, but he recites it wrong. I was to accept the twins, and I did. Carlton walks away with Dwight.

 “What the hell?” I look at him. “I thought you loved me.”

 Skylar looks at me with narrowed eyes. They go from dark to really dark, and I can sense Pollux trying to take control. “I only loved you because of the bond.”

 “What about the pups?” I say as I feel pain lower down and worry about them.

 “You made it abundantly clear that you hate them,” Skylar growls. “So, abort them for all I care.”

 “What?” I yell. “I do not hate them, Skylar. I love them. I was just apprehensive about being a mother. I needed time to think. But I could never abort them.”

 Skylar’s expression softens slightly, “You really love them?”

 “Yes, you asshole,” I say as tears stream down my cheeks. “But whatever. I don’t need you.” I say and back away. “I’m going home,” I state and walk away.

 “Amber,” Tyler grabs me. “I’m going with you. I will never reject you.”

 “It doesn’t matter, Tyler. In three days, our bond will be broken,” I sniffle. “You can pick someone else.”

 “I don’t want anyone else,” Tyler growls. “You are the only one I want. I never wanted Savannah or anyone else but you, Amber. I love you, and even if our bond breaks, I will still want you. I don’t care about being Alpha or King. I want you and will go wherever you go.”

 My heart swells at his words as I look into his blue eyes. Tyler has been kind to me since the day we met, and I resisted him because of Skylar. I clasp Tyler’s hands, “We can both go back to Shadow Winds.”

 “We’ll take care of the pups together,” Tyler smiles and looks at his twin. “By the way, Skylar, two of the pups Amber is carrying are yours. But I will take care of them for you.” 

 “Goodbye, Skylar,” I say, tugging Tyler behind me toward the room. My heart is breaking because I do love Skylar. But I will not stay here if he doesn’t want me. I help Tyler pack his bag, and we prepare to leave.

 Skylar waits for us as we leave, “Can we talk?”

 “You have already said enough, Skylar,” I tell him. I touch his arm and open the door.

 “Tyler?” Skylar sounds desperate.

 “You are still my brother, Skylar,” Tyler says. “We’ll send you pictures.”

 Skylar says nothing more and heads down the hall.

 Tyler and I walk out of the penthouse toward the elevator. “I called for a car.”

 “We can just take a car?” I laugh.

 “Yeah, Nightstar owns them,” He chuckles. 

 The elevator reaches the ground floor, and we head toward the door. A white sedan is sitting in front, and a man in a valet uniform hands Tyler the keys.

 “It’s all ready for you, Mr. Brooks,” the man bows.

 “Thank you,” Tyler says and opens the trunk. We quickly load it up and get into the car. “Do you think your uncle will be okay with this?”

 “He should be,” I shrug. “And if he isn’t, then we’ll find somewhere else to live.”

 “Right,” Tyler smiles. 

 I call my father. “Hey, Dad,” I say to him.

 “Amber, sweetie, how are things?” Dad answers. I hear chattering in the background. Some of it sounds like Uncle Henry and Grandpa.

 “I’m coming home, Daddy,” I breathe out. “Well, Tyler and I are coming home.”

 “What are you talking about, Amber? Your home is Nightstar,” Dad states, and the chatter stops.

 “Not anymore,” I huff. “Skylar rejected me, so fuck him. Fuck Nightstar.”

 “What do you mean rejected you?” Dad huffs. “He can’t reject you.”

 “Well, he did. And I have no desire to return to Nightstar,” I tell my father. 

 There is some noise, and I hear my father arguing with Uncle Henry. “Amber?” My uncle says with anger in his voice. “Tell me what is going on.”

 “I just told my dad. Skylar rejected me, and I am returning to Shadow Winds with Tyler,” I explain to my uncle. “If that’s not alright, we’ll find somewhere else to go.”

 “Come straight to Shadow Winds, Amber. We have to talk. This is not good,” Uncle Henry huffs. “This is not good at all.”

 “So, we won’t be royalty,” I say. “I didn’t want to be queen anyways.”

 “I don’t think you understand, Amber. Your grandmother and Dawna will explain why this is bad,” My uncle sighs.

 “Amber,” My dad says. “Come straight to the packhouse. We will be waiting for you,” He states and hangs up the phone. 

 Tyler glances at me, “What was that all about?”

 “They said to go straight to the packhouse when we get to Shadow Winds,” I tell him. “We are probably going to get lectured.”

 ‘It’s more than that,’ Lilith speaks up. She has been quiet since Skylar rejected me.

 I settle into the seat as we head towards Shadow Winds. It will be a few hours before we get there. 

 Tyler turns on the radio. “What do you want to listen to?” He asks.

 “Whatever you like,” I shrug as he settles on a hard rock station.

 I close my eyes and find myself wandering through an overgrown meadow. I trudge through flowers and high grass as I search for a way out.

 “Amber,” I hear my mother calling to me.

 “Mom,” I call back. “Mom, where are you?”

 “Amber,” She calls again. “Open your eyes,” she says.

 “Mom?” I call desperately as she appears in front of me. “Mom,” I say with relief, but she looks serious.

 “Open your eyes, Amber,” she says and disappears.

 “Shit!” I hear Tyler scream as the brakes on the car screech.

 I open my eyes and see Marcellus with an army surrounding him, blocking the road. 

The car comes to a screeching halt, and Tyler looks back, and we are surrounded. “What the fuck?” I say and open the door.

 “Amber,” Tyler yells as a hand breaks through the window and pulls him out of the car.

 “Tyler!” I scream and run out of the car. 

 Three men, including Barabas, have Tyler on his knees with a silver knife at his throat. I run towards him and watch in horror as the blade is slid across his throat.

 “TYLER!” I scream and am grabbed from behind. 

 Cold hands hold me tight as Marcellus’s lips hover near my ears, “If you want him to live, you will do as I say,” He hisses.

 “But- “

 “He will live if you cooperate,” Marcellus says coldly.

 “Tyler,” I call out desperately as I watch my mate collapse.

 Marcellus spins me around so I am facing him. There is a cold grin on his face, “Did you honestly believe that I snuck into your room last night?” He laughs. “No, I was invited.”

 “What?” I try to turn to see Tyler, but he is gone. “Where is Tyler?”

 “He is alive, for now. Cooperate with us and both of you mates,” He touches my belly, “And your pups will live.”
