 I am woken up from a restless sleep by my wolf. Castor is pacing and whimpering in my head. ‘What is wrong?’ I ask as I open my eyes and see Amber moving about the room. She appears to be stuffing things into her bag. “What are you doing?” I ask sleepily.

 She says nothing as she picks up her bag and leaves the room.

 “Amber,” I call and shoot out of bed to follow her. “Amber,” I catch up to her and grab her arm. “Where are you going?” 

 “I am going to find Marcellus,” She confesses. “I can’t get it out of my head, Tyler.”

 “So, you were just going to sneak out?” I look her in the eyes.

 She looks at the ground.

 “For goddess sake, Amber. I thought we were past stuff like that,” I nearly yelled.

 “I don’t expect you to understand, Tyler,” she says and tries to free herself from my grip.

 “I want to understand. But you won’t let me in,” I plead with her. “I said we should sit and talk about this.”

 “Yeah, but asshole shut it down, and we both know you do what he says,” She grumbles.

 A growl rolls out of me, “I do not always do what Skylar says. Let’s go back to the room and sit and talk,” I demand. “If you are unsatisfied with the outcome after the conversation, you can leave, and I won’t stop you.”

 Her eyebrow knit as she ponders what I said. She lets out a long breath, “Fine.” 

 I smile at her and pull her back down the hall to the room. We sit on the couch for a moment. “Now, tell me the plan.”

 She looks away from me and bites on her ragged nails. “I was going to go to Shadow Winds. I believe I know where the coven is. Barabas said it was behind a waterfall, except there are no waterfalls in Shadow Winds,” She explains. “But I know what he is talking about, and Dawna more or less confirmed it.”

 “I see,” I nod. “And what were you going to do after you found the vampires?”

 “I was going to talk to him,” she shrugs. “He said if I wanted to know why the royal really fell, I had to go find him.”

 “I see,” I nod. “So, you were confident that nothing bad would happen to you or our pups?”

 “Your pups,” She mutters. “I didn’t sense danger from Marcellus last night.”

 I take a deep breath, “I will go with you, Amber. We will find out what he has to say.”

 She smiles at me, and I touch her hand. “You don’t- “

 “You are my mate. You are carrying my pups. I love you,” I tell her. “I support your ambitions. Please, Amber, quit pushing me away.”

 Tears well up in her eyes, and she looks away, “I do love you, Tyler. I love both of you. But- “

 “I get it. Everything changed so quickly. I know you aren’t thrilled about the pups, but like I told you before. I think you will be a good mother. I have seen you with your niece and nephews. I saw how you were with Elsie. They are drawn to you. And I know you think you will have to give up everything to be a mother. But that isn’t true. You will still be Amber.”

 She sniffles and wipes a tear from her cheek. “There are three of them,” She touches her belly.

 I place my hand over her, and Castor makes a low humming noise. 

 ‘Only one is yours. The other two are Skylar’s pups,’ Castor tells me.

 “I can’t wait to meet them,” I say as I sense the three little lives growing within my mate. “We are in this together, Amber. You, me, and Skylar.”

 She leans into me, and I pull her towards me. “I’m so sorry.”

 I wrap my arms around her and take in her scent. Wild raspberries wash over me, and my heart thrums against my chest. I kiss the top of her head, “Don’t be sorry.” I gently rock her relishing the moment together. 

 “I’m hungry,” She laughs.

 “We should go see what’s for breakfast. Carlton’s people make good food,” I mention.

 “Tyler, I don’t like your uncle,” she blurts. “Something about him just doesn’t feel right to me.”

 “He means well,” I respond. “We will only be here for a couple of days.”

 She sighs and unwinds herself from my arms, and stands up. She looks cute in her jean shorts and white T-shirt with her medium-length hair resting on her shoulders. “What?”

 “I think you look adorable,” I smile and look at myself. I am wearing only boxers, “I’ll throw some clothes on.” I stand up and find my bag. I throw on a pair of grey sweatpants and a blue T-shirt. I grab Amber’s hand, and we walk out of the room. On the way to the dining room, we run into Skylar. I smell whiskey on his breath as he glares at Amber.

 “Good morning,” She greets him.

 Skylar sneers, “Whatever.”

 “What’s your problem?” Amber counters.

 “Not you,” He smirks and brushes past us.

 “Where are you going?” I ask. “We are just going to breakfast.”

 “I am going out to find a mate,” Skylar announces.

 “What the fuck are you talking about?” Amber growls.

 Skylar narrows his eyes at her. “I have come to the conclusion that I don’t need you, Amber Payne. I love you, but- “He trails off. “I only love you because of the Goddess. I’m sure that love will fade.”

 “What are you saying, Skylar?” Amber says, and I hate the look of devastation in her eyes.

 “Something I should have done the day I met you,” Skylar announces. His blue eyes flash yellow, and he growls. “I am doing this, Pollux,” He growls.

 ‘He is going to reject, Amber,’ Castor speaks up.

 ‘What?’ I say to my wolf.

 ‘It won’t work, though,’ Caster mutters. ‘You both have to reject her.’

 “Skylar, don’t do it,” I demand.

 Skylar glares at me, “Stay out of this, Tyler.”

 “Stay out of this?” I yell. “We are all in this together.”

 “Count me out,” Skylar sneers and stares at Amber. “I, Skylar Vincent Brooks, reject you, Amber Elyse Payne as my mate and Luna,” He states. Skylar lets out a growl, “Fuck,” He curses. “It won’t work without you,” He glares at me.

 “I will not reject her, Skylar,” I say to him and wrap my arm around Amber.

 “Fuck this,” Skylar yells. “I hate both of you!”

 A clapping noise comes from a room beside us as Uncle Carlton steps out wearing a nice suit with a cigar in his mouth. Dwight is next to him, wearing an equally nice suit. “Brilliant, Skylar, just brilliant. I knew you could do it.”

 “Why are you clapping?” I ask my uncle.

 “Because, Tyler,” He laughs and glances at Dwight. “Dwight will be the Alpha of Nightstar, and the royals will never rise again.”

 “What are you talking about?” Skylar says.

 “Oh, don’t you know about the deal your father made with Amber?” Carlton laughs and puffs on his cigar. “He made a deal with her that you both had to accept her as your mate, or you would forfeit being alpha,” He explains. “And Dwight would then become alpha.” He claps his hands. “And I have already informed Victor that you rejected Amber.”

 “Only Skylar did,” I argue. “I will never reject her.” 

 “It doesn’t matter, Tyler,” Carlton laughs. “Now that Skylar has rejected her in three days, your bond will be fully severed for all three of you.” He laughs and shakes his head. “Come now, Dwight. You have a pack to lead.” He wraps his arm around his son and walks away.
