 “I need to go find Marcellus Lafayette,” my naked mate blurts out to Tyler and me.

 I look at the clock and it is about three am. I had just been woken up by my restless wolf and now she blurts that out. I laid back down on the bed.

 “Why do you need to find him?” Tyler asks.

 I stare at the dark ceiling hoping to get back to sleep but Pollux is too riled up to settle down. He had been worried earlier when he and Castor couldn’t contact Lilith. The silence from their mate was too much and drove Tyler and I to run in here. Amber said she was fine, and Lilith started talking again. I suspected something had happened but neither Amber nor Lilith said anything.

 “Earlier,” She starts, “I had a visitor.”

 I sit up to face her. The room is bathed in the glow of the city lights, but I can see my mate’s furrowed brow. “What visitor?” I demand. “Was that the reason that caused Pollux and Castor to panic?”

 Amber bites her lower lip and looks at the ground. I can sense her hesitation.

 “Amber?” Tyler grabs her arm and pulls her to the bed. She falls into his arms and curls into him.

 “I- “She pauses and looks at me. “Marcellus came to me earlier while I was napping.”

 A growl rumbles out of me. “And you are choosing fucking three am to tell us?” 

 “Skylar,” Tyler glares at me.

 “No, Tyler, fuck you,” I growl.

 “I’m sorry,” Amber whimpers. “I was- “she trails off. “My brain is all over the place. Everything is happening so fast.”

 “You have mentioned that” I mumble angrily. 

 “Why do you need to find Marcellus?” Tyler huffs.

 “He said that he knows the truth about what happened to the royals,” Amber responds.

 “That’s it?” I grumble. “He broke in here to tell you that.”

 “That’s it, Skylar,” Amber replies. “He wasn’t here to take me. He said if I want to know the truth to go find him. And I know where to look.”

 “How do you know it’s not a trap?” Tyler asks.

 “I don’t,” Amber replies.

 I stand up and let out a dark laugh, “So, you want us to let you go off to find a vampire who wants your blood while carrying our pups? And we are supposed to be okay with it?” 

 “I need to know what Marcellus has to say, Skylar,” Amber wrestles herself out of Tyler’s arms and stands up. She approaches me. “I know it sounds crazy but I- “

 “It’s not happening, Amber. I forbid it,” I growl.

 “You guys can come with,” She huffs. “I need to do this, Skylar,” She looks at my twin. “Tyler?”

 “No,” I shake my head. “As long as you are carrying our pups you will not go traipsing off after vampires.”

 “You don’t fucking own me, Skylar Brooks,” Amber yells. 

 “You wear our marks,” I point at her neck.

 She folds her arms, “Gods.”

 “Look,” I reach for her, and she backs away. I growl with frustration, “I love you, Amber. I don’t want you to get hurt or kidnapped or- “I trail off. “And the pups- “

 “Right, I am fucking broodmare now. That’s all that matters,” she sneers. “I wish I wasn’t pre- “She trails off and shakes her head. “I hate this. I hate all of it. I just wanted to be a warrior.” She sits on the couch.

 “Amber let’s talk about this,” Tyler tries to reason with her. He sits beside her, and she moves away from him. “Maybe Skylar is being rash, both of you are. We don’t even know where those vampires are.”

 “I know where they are,” Amber responds. “I need to do this,” she seems to be begging. “I need to know.”

 “He’s tricking you,” I argue. “He is tricking you to trap you, Amber,” I huff. “He’s trying to paly on your sympathies and desire for answers.”

 “I didn’t get that feeling from him, Skylar,” she counters. 

 “We aren’t going,” I snarl. 

 Amber glares at me and lies down on the couch.

 “Can we talk about this in the morning?” Tyler asks her.

 “Whatever,” Amber mutters.

 “Come back to bed,” Tyler says to her.

 “No, go away,” she grumbles.

 “Just let her stay there, Ty,” I snort. “I’m going back to my room,” I say and pick up my shorts from the floor and stumble out of the room.

 “What’s going on?” Uncle Carlton pokes his head out of his room. “Why are you kids all yelling this early?”

 “Amber is- “I scoff as I trail off. 

 “Oh,” My uncle smirks.

 I say nothing and head down the hall to my room. It’s still set up how I remember. I flop down on the bed face first. Pollux is pacing in my head. ‘Dude, lie down,’ I snarl at him.

 ‘I am not a dog,’ My wolf mutters.

 ‘Then stop fucking acting like one,’ I grumble. 

 Pollux whimpers and retreats to his corner of my mind. 

 I close my eyes and in no time I am asleep. It’s morning before I know it. I begrudgingly get up and throw on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. I trudge downstairs to the living room. Dwight is sitting on the couch with his son. I admire them for a moment a Dwight plays with Milo.

 “Oh, hey, Sky,” My cousin jumps slightly. 

 I sit a few spots down from him. “Sorry to startle you.”

 Dwight chuckles, “I love playing with Milo first thing. He loves it too,” He grins at his son. 

 “What about your daughter?” I wonder.

 “She’s alright. I am not interested in dolls and girly stuff,” Dwight shrugs.

 “Oh,” I respond as I watch Dwight toss a football to Milo. 

 Milo catches it and cheers, “I caught it, Daddy.”

 “You did son,” Dwight laughs.

 “Hey, boys,” Uncle Carlton appears behind the couch. “You are up early, Sky.”

 “I guess,” I look at a clock on the wall. It’s seven am. “I guess I am just used to being up early.”

 “So, what was the kerfuffle with Amber all about last night?” My uncle asks as he sits down. He grins at Milo, “What ya got there, Milo?”

 “Football,” Milo grins and tosses it at Carlton.

 “Oop,” Carlton catches it. “Go long,” he says, and Milo runs to the other side of the room. Carlton tosses the ball and Milo dives to get it but misses. “Oh, try harder to catch it, Milo.”

 Milo’s lower lip quivers as he retrieves the ball, “Sorry, Papa.”

 “Sorry doesn’t catch footballs, Milo,” Uncle Carlton huffs. He looks at me.

 “Amber wanted to go off and find a vampire,” I mention.

 “Marcellus Lafayette,” Uncle Carlton blurts out.

 I freeze for a moment, “How did you- “

 “Vic told me all about the vampire, Skylar,” my uncle laughs.

 “Oh,” I sigh.

 Uncle Carlton stands up and beckons for me, “Come on, Skylar.”

 “Where are we going?” I ask as I stand and nod at my cousin.

 “For a walk,” He responds and walks towards the elevator. 

 We are silent for a moment as he touches the button, and we wait for the machine. Uncle Carlton hums as we wait. The doors finally slide open, and we step into the elevator. Carlton pushes the button for the thirtieth floor. 

 “Where are we going?” I ask but my uncle shrugs.

 The door open and we step off and Uncle Carlton takes me down the hall to a large room with a big bar and lots of places to sit. I recognize it as the lounge. It has pool tables and few dart boards. 

 “Want a drink?” Uncle Carlton asks heading over to the bar.

 “It’s seven am,” I mutter.

 “And?” He laughs while picking up a bottle of whiskey and pouring it into two glasses. “We must celebrate. My two nephews are going to be dads,” He grins and slides a glass towards me.

 I look at the glass and sigh, “I wish I could celebrate.”

 “Why can’t you?” Uncle Carlton asks while sipping his drink. He grabs the bottle and walks around the bar and indicates a table nearby. 

 I follow him and sit across from him. “Amber, isn’t the least bit happy that she is pregnant.”

 “That’s too bad,” he says and pours himself some more whiskey. “She sounds like my mate,” He laughs. “Jessica was that type,” He snorts. “The strong, independent type,” He laughs. He sips some more whiskey while I stare at mine. “You can never tame a woman like Jessica or Amber.” He laughs. “Victor tells me that Amber was training to be a part of Alpha Martin’s elite whatever,” He states, and I nod.

 “She didn’t get it this time,” I add.

 “So, let me guess she never wanted pups, right?” He laughs.

 “Yeah,” I nod. “She doesn’t want to be like her older sister who has six.”

 “Six,” Uncle Carlton whistles.

 “Well, four with two on the way,” I clarify. “Apparently, Regina dropped out of med school to have pups for her mate.”

 “There is nothing wrong with that, Skylar,” my uncle says and chugs the last of his whiskey. He smacks his lips while pouring a third glass. “Drink up, boy,” He nods at my glass. “There is nothing wrong with a woman doing her duty. Their duty is to serve us and give us pups.”

 “But Amber is so much more than that,” I say with a slight smile.

 “Oh, sure, they can have their little hobbies and jobs,” He laughs. “But their most basic function is to be mothers. Jessica wanted to be a lawyer,” He laughs. “I told her hell no. She fought me on it during her entire pregnancy. I don’t think she even attempted to bond with Dwight. So, after she gave birth she left,” He sighs and downs the whiskey. “Fuck her, right?” He snarks. “Fuck women like Jessica and Amber. Don’t let her bring you down, Skylar. I know you think you are going to be king but- “He laughs and trails off. “There are a lot of alphas that will not let that happen. They will start a war to prevent you three from becoming royalty. It’s not worth it.”

 My head starts turning as my uncle speaks, “I just wanted to be with Savannah and be alpha.”

 “See? What’s stopping you?” He laughs.

 “Well, first Savannah doesn’t want us anymore. She has her fated mate,” I sigh.

 “Then choose another mate,” Uncle Carlton smirks. “I have chosen several. Cassia is like my fourth,” He laughs. “And she won’t be the last. We are alpha, man. We can have any woman we want. We aren’t bound to some moon bitch. Go out and find another mate.”

 “You know what, Uncle Carlton, you are right,” I say and slam my drink down. “Fuck Amber.”

 “That’s a boy,” He grins. “Fuck her.”

 I slam the glass down and stand up. 

 “Where are you going?” My uncle asks with a slur in his voice.

 “To free myself,” I state and march out of the lounge.
