 "Where do you need us to take you?" Victor asks Dawna.

 She glances at me and then the twins, "Just take me to the border," she grins. "And I will need you three," She points at us.

 "For what?" Skylar huffs.

 Dawna lifts an eyebrow as one of her sons lets out a bear growl, "Calm down, Jake," she says to the taller one. "Jake is protective of his mama," She winks, and Jake looks at the ground. "I need all three of your wolves to seal the barrier," She looks at Skylar.

 "We’ll lead toward the border,” Tyler adds.

 “Good,” Dawna reaches into the car, pulls out a leather satchel, and hangs it over her arm. It’s green and goes with her dark brown hair and brown and green outfit. Her thick hair has feathers and leaves and beads braided into it. She sees me staring, “Do you like beads?”

 I shrug, “I just liked the style of your hair.”

 Dawna laughs, “This old mess?” She looks at my grandmother, “You were right, Phyl. She is a lot like Caty,” Dawna winks at me.

 “I’m going back to be with your mother and sister,” Victor tells the twins. “You can handle this, right?”

 “Yes, Dad,” Tyler responds.

 “I’ll go with them, Vic,” Richard adds.

 “Thanks, Rich,” Victor nods at Dawna, “You and your sons are welcome for as long as you need. I’ll have rooms set up for you.”

 “Thank you, alpha,” Dawna bows.

 “This way,” Tyler gestures towards the woods. 

 I walk between my mates as we lead Dawna to the closest border. She walks behind us beside Grandma while her sons and Richard bring up the rear. Dawna is humming, and it seems the plants and birds are responding to her. I am weary of her because I am not a fan of witches.

 “I know you are weary, Amber,” Dawna says after seemingly to have read my mind. “There are bad witches which soil the good ones. But I assure you my intentions are purely for good. I do not dabble in black magic,” She says firmly.

 “I’m sorry, Dawna. I have a hard time trusting witches,” I state. 

 “I am not a fan of witches either, dear,” Grandma joins in, “But you can trust Dawna. I swear on my life.” Grandma gives me a serious look, so I know I can trust her.

 “Okay, Grandma,” I sigh.

 “You don’t trust witches, but you are alright with vampires?” Skylar snorts.

 “I didn’t say I was alright with them,” I argue.

 “You said you preferred vampires over witches,” Tyler counters.

 “I just said they were more trustworthy,” I glance at Dawna, “No offense.”

 Dawna shrugs but says nothing. 

 “So, how do you have two werebear sons?” Richard changes the subject.

 “Their father is a werebear,” Dawna states matter-of-factly.

 “I never knew a werebear to mate with a witch,” Richard chuckles.

 “Have you known many werebears, Beta?” Dawna smirks.

 Richard sputters, “I never told you my rank.”

 “I figured it out,” Dawna snorts. “And no werebears rarely mate with anyone but other werebears. But Cordell loves me, and I love him.”

 “He’s still alive?” I ask.

 “Yes,” Dawna laughs, “He just has a clan to run.”

 We all stop, and Tyler points, “That rock is the border,” He gestures, “And continues that way.”

 Dawna nods, sets her satchel down, and begins digging through it, “I am going to need the three of you to shift.”

 “Why?” Skylar scoffs.

 She lifts an eyebrow at him, “Your wolves will know why,” she looks at her sons, and they laugh.

 “What did you just say to them?” Skylar demands.

 Dawna smirks and picks a few vials from her satchel, “Shift now.”

 ‘Lilith?’ I call to my wolf as I take off my clothes.

 ‘I know what to do,’ She responds.

 I set my clothes down and see that Tyler and Skylar are both ready to shift, ‘Okay, Lilith, do what you need to do,’ I conclude and allow her to take control. We shift and stand between our slightly smaller silver mates. 

 Pollux growls when I notice that Jake and Dale have shifted into two rather large grizzly bears.

 “Never mind the boys,” Dawna states. “They are here for protection. This spell may draw others towards us. My boys will keep them from attacking while you three are temporarily distracted.”

 “Should I shift?” Richard asks.

 “If you want,” She looks at her sons. One of them makes a snarling noise. Dawna turns to us while Richard shifts into a brown wolf and stands uneasily near the bears.

 ‘What do we do now?’ Skylar mind links me.

 “Just follow along,” Dawna responds with a smirk. She picks up a vial of green powder and opens it to sprinkle on the rock. I smell sage and garlic in the mixture. She begins to chant in what I presume to be Latin. 

 Lilith and the boys start to hum along and approach Dawna, who touches her thumb to their snouts. 

 The wolves then sit as Dawna lights the powder on fire, and we watch as a forcefield forms and then spreads along the border. The trees on the other side are rustling, and I hear the bears growling. The wolves keep their attention on Dawna and the force field.

 “Seal the spell,” Dawna says while looking at us.

 Lilith and the boys instinctively touch their noses on the rock as the fire dissipates and the force field disappears. Dawna stops chanting and claps her hand.

 “That should hold until the full moon,” Dawna says. “You may shift back now if you wish.” 

 ‘Is that all?’ I wonder. Lilith gives me control, and I shift back into human form, pick up my clothes, and throw them back on.

 “I’m thirsty,” Dawna announces. “Do you guys have anything good to drink?” She asks.

 “I’m sure we have tea somewhere,” Tyler smiles.

 “Tea,” Dawna scoffs, “I need some damn whiskey, boy.”

 “Uh,” Tyler sputters.

 “We have whiskey,” Skylar laughs. “Are you all hungry?” He asks and looks at Dale and Jake, who are in human form also.

 “We could eat,” Jake responds.

 “Did you guys see anything during the spell?” I ask. “I thought I heard you both growl, but I couldn’t look.”

 Jake nods, “A few vampires appeared but saw us and turned tail.”

 I look beyond the border, “So, they are just lingering out there?”

 “They are waiting for an opportunity to get you,” Grandma responds. “But with the barrier, they will have to find another way.”

 “Can they get in at all?” I ask.

 “No,” Dawna states and starts walking towards the house. “I need to sit. That spell took a lot out of me. I will also tell you more about Marcellus Lafayette.”

 We all start back toward the packhouse. I lean against Tyler while Skylar stomps a little ahead of us. 

 Tyler brushes a strand of hair out of my face, “Are you feeling okay?”

 I nod, “I’m fine.”

 We return to the house and go to one of the sitting rooms. There is a little buffet of snacks set up. Skylar disappears while we all take our seats.

 “Help yourselves,” Tyler says to Dale and Jake. 

 The bears walk over to the table and start filling up on food. Skylar returns with a bottle of liquor and some glasses in his hands. “I hope you like this one,” Skylar shows Dawna the bottle.

 She grins, “Old Red’s Bourbon,” she cackles. “Your father has taste.”

 “Hopefully, he won’t tan my hide for taking it,” Skylar snorts as he pours a glass and hands it to Dawna. She sniffs the whiskey and then takes a sip, “Mmm, yes.”

 Dale and Jake sit on either side of their mother with piles of food.

 “Would you guys like some too?” Skylar asks them.

 “Sure,” Dale responds.

 I sit on the couch opposite Dawna and her sons while Grandma and Richard pull up chairs. Tyler sits beside me with some food and offers it to me. I brush it off.

 Dawna steals an egg roll from one of her sons’ plates. She chews it for a moment while sipping the whiskey. 

 Skylar hands me a can of Sprite and then sits beside me. I give him a small smile before turning my attention to Dawna.

 “So, you are related to us?” I indicate myself and Grandma.

 “Distantly,” Dawna responds. 

 “Like a cousin?” 

 Dawna nods, “Yes.”

 “So, are you like old or something?” Skylar chimes in rudely.

 Dale and Jake both snarl at him.

 “Calm down.” Dawna places a hand on their knees. “Yes, Skylar Brooks, I am like old or something,” she chuckles. “I was alive when King Dunstan was still alive. His mate Queen Anna was my first cousin,” She explains. “My father and her father were brothers.”

 “You are a wolf?” Tyler blurts out.

 Dawna frowns, “Not anymore. My wolf died a long time ago when my first mate died.”

 “I’m sorry to hear that,” Tyler sighs. “I didn’t mean to-“

 “It’s fine,” Dawna chuckles dryly. “After Harold died, I left the pack, and shortly after that, the kingdom fell. Anna and the rest of my family died,” She continues as her sons hold her hands. “I wandered for some time and discovered why the Arco line fell. Dunstan made some shady deals with the Lafayettes. And when he didn’t pay up-, “ she trails off and leans forward to grab her drink. She downs it and smacks her lips. “Dunstan died, and I believed his son also had. So, I joined a coven. My mother’s family were witches, so I sought them out. They taught me a lot, and after that, I discovered Clarence was alive, and the Lafayettes were still hunting the Arcos. So I did what I could to protect Clarence and his pups.” She pauses and pours herself another drink. She takes a long swig, “Good stuff.” 

 “So, the Lafayettes want me because of some deal?” I ask.

 “That’s most of it,” Dawna nods. “Also, because your blood is valuable. With the right spells and other herbs, your blood can be used to heal just about anyone, Amber,” She explains. “It can also be used to do great harm.”

 I shudder at the thought. “Barabas,” I pause. “A vampire we captured.”

 “Barabas?” Dawna lifts an eyebrow. 

 “You know him?” Tyler asks.

 “Yes,” She nods. 

 “Of course she does,” Skylar snorts.

 “Anyways, Barabas said that Marcellus Lafayette means to milk me of my blood,” I state.

 “That he does,” Dawna downs the rest of her whiskey. She sets her glass down. “But he is becoming desperate if he shows up in your house. He knows that once you three become crowned, Amber’s blood will become toxic and no longer valuable.”

 “There are other reasons that others are after you,” Grandma interjects. “There are some packs who are aware of our existence. That is why Keith Timmons tried to kidnap you. They do not want the royals to return.”

 “Why?” Tytler asks.

 “Power,” Granda replies. 

 “In order for you three to become the kings and queen we have all been waiting for,” Dawna leans forward and looks us in the eyes. “You have to defeat the vampires.”

 “We thought we had killed Marcellus and his brothers,” Grandma sighs. “But we only got Gerard and Francois. Marcellus is thirsty and will stop at nothing to get you,” Grandma explains.

 “Barabas told us to search the old palace and find a waterfall,” I look between my grandmother and Dawna. 

 They exchange looks.

 “Did he lie?” I wonder.

 “No,” Grandma shakes her head.

 “Where is the old palace, Grandma?” I ask.

 Grandma presses her lips together, “It’s under the packhouse at Shadow Winds.”

 “What?” I nearly yell.

 “The only part of the old palace that remained was the foundation. Your grandfather built the house on top of it,” She explains.

 “So, where is the waterfall?”

 “You know where it is, dear,” Grandma states. My eyes widen, and tears well up as a flood of memories flash through my mind.

 “You mean-“

 “Yeah,” Grandma stands up. 

 “What is going on?” Tyler touches my arm. “Why are you crying?”

 “It’s not a waterfall,” I respond. “But I know where it is.”

 “Then let's go there and torch some fucking bloodsuckers,” Skylar stands up and slams a fist into his palm.

 “Skylar,” Tyler drawls.

 “What’s the problem?” Skylar snarls. “Shadow Winds is one of the strongest packs there is, and with ours-“ He trails off as Dawna and Grandma stare at him. “What?”

 “It won’t be that easy, Skylar,” Grandma says. “I will consult Henry and the Council on how to proceed.”

 “Why wait?” Skylar yells. “Those fuckers almost got my mother and sister killed.”

 “I heard about that,” Dawna looks at Grandma.

 “Our sister is still unconscious,” Tyler states.

 Dawna stands up, “She’s at your hospital, I presume?”

 “Yeah,” Tyler nods.

 “Take me to her,” Dawna demands, “And Amber. I will need you.”

 I touch my arm, “You mean you’ll need my blood.”

 “Yes,” Dawna smiles. “Don’t worry. I’ll only need a few drops. But it will be as if their sister was never injured.”

 I rise from the couch, “Okay.”

 “Wait,” Skylar grabs me.

 “I want to help Corie,” I tell him. 

 Skylar ponders for a moment, “Thank you.”

 I touch his cheek, “Your sister is my sister,” I tell him. “I would give all of my blood to help her.”

 “I am going to get some work done in the office,” Richard states.

 We all exit the room, head out of the packhouse, and walk to the hospital. Dawna digs into her satchel while humming. She pulls out a vial of red liquid and grins. “The last one.”

 Tyler and Skylar both tense up as we reach the hospital. Lilith whimpers in my head. “What’s wrong?” I wonder. 

 “Something is wrong,” Tyler mentions.

 We walk, and there is tension in the air. Victor and Sheila stand in the hall, holding each other while nurses and doctors rush around.

 “Mom, Dad,” Tyler shouts. “What’s going on?”

 Sheila buries her face in Victor’s chest and sobs. Victor looks down the hall, “Corie has taken a turn for the worst,” He states.

 “The doctors are losing her,” Sheila cries out. “I can feel it. My baby is dying.”

 Dawna grabs my hand, “Come on, Amber.” She says and pulls me down the hall.

 “What are you doing?” Victor shouts.

 “I am saving your daughter,” Dawna shouts back.
