 Skylar and I comfort Amber until she falls asleep after her latest nightmare. She snuggles into me and moans happily. I sigh as I move a strand of her hair from her face. It isn’t lost on me that she has yet to say ‘I love you’ to either of us.

 Skylar rolls over to face away from us. I can sense he is upset about something, but he won’t say anything. I close my eyes, and before long, I am awakened by knocking on the door.

 ‘Tyler, Skylar,’ Dad’s deep voice rumbles in my head. ‘Time to get up.’

 I groan and pick up my phone from the side table. It’s only five am. I remember Dad had said he would wake us up early. The knocking continues until Skylar rolls out of bed and stumbles to answer it.

 “Are you boys up?” Our father asks in an entirely too enthusiastic tone.

 “We are now,” Skylar grumbles.

 Dad claps, “Hurry up and get dressed and down to training.” His voice echoes in the room, and Amber stirs.

 “Dad, Amber is trying to sleep,” Skylar complains.

 “Oops,” He responds with a faux shrug. “Hurry up!” He barks while walking out of the room. “You have fifteen minutes to be at training.”

 I sigh and slowly unravel myself from Amber. I kiss her soft cheek and stroke her forehead. “We’ll be back later, sweetheart,” I whisper. 

 Skylar and I quickly get dressed and leave the room. My twin is quiet as we ride in the elevator. He keeps sighing but not saying anything.

 “What’s on your mind?” I finally ask.

 He looks at me briefly, then shrugs, “Nothing.”

 “Right, like I’m going to believe that,” I snort.

 We walk out of the house, and Ethan and Oscar are on the path leading to the training grounds. 

 “Your dads have you up early too?” I ask.

 “Yeah,” Ethan huffs. “I mean, the sun isn’t even up.”

 The first tendrils of sunlight are peaking over the horizon, but otherwise, it is almost pitch-black outside. We reach the training grounds, and our dads are talking to Cole Walker. They all stop with grins.

 “Good morning, boys,” Dad greets us. “You are all probably wondering why we have you up so early, huh?”

 “That would be my first question,” Ethan grumbles.

 Richard grins, “We want to see how well the four of you work together in combat, right Tony?” He looks at the gamma.

 “So, we are going to have you all sparring against us,” Tony puffs out his chest.

 “Shouldn’t Amber be out here too?” I wonder.

 “She isn’t cleared for training yet,” Dad mentions. “Now hurry and get your asses warmed up.”

 The four of us quickly warm up while our dads talk and laugh. I keep thinking about Amber's reluctance to have pups or say, ‘I love you.’ 

 ‘She loves you,’ Castor speaks up. ‘She just has a hard time saying it.’

 ‘Skylar can say it,’ I huff back to him and nearly collide with my twin.

 “What the hell, Tyler?” Skylar snarls. “Quit daydreaming.”

 “I was just thinking about Amber,” I sigh.

 Skylar stares at me momentarily before dropping his eyes to the ground. “You mean like how she won’t say ‘I love you’ to us,” he says, and I nod. 

 “Boys,” Dad barks at us and walks over. “The others are waiting on you.”

 “Sorry, Dad, we have a lot on our minds,” I tell him.

 “Well, I need two to focus on training, okay?” He gives us a serious look. 

 Skylar and I line up next to Ethan and Oscar while Cole paces. “Okay, the four of you are the future of Nightstar. You will be the first line of defense in an attack. We,” He gestures to our dads, “Need to see how well you handle battle.”

 “We have been in battles,” Oscar argues.

 “Yep,” Cole nods. “Now, pair up. Ethan and Tyler, Skylar, and Oscar.” 

 I look at my best friend, and he shrugs. “Try not to kill me,” He smirks.

 “I want you all to start sparring, and then your fathers will attack,” Cole explains. “It’s up to you and your partner to take them down efficiently.” He blows a whistle, and we start sparring.

 I listen as poor Oscar lands on the ground. Skylar is hovering over the future gamma while Ethan punches my stomach. I let out a groan. “What the hell?” I say to him.

 “They said fight, not watch Oscar and Skylar,” He shrugs.

 “Asshole,” I mumble and return a punch. Ethan dodges it and slaps me on the back of the head. 

 “Tyler, focus,” Dad barks.

 Ethan and I exchange blows, “Have you heard from my sister lately?” Ethan asks while we punch at each other.

 “No,” I shrug.

 “She found her second chance mate,” he says.

 “Wow,” I smile, only to be punched in the nose. Blood pours down my face, “Fuck you.”

 “It’s some guy named Dewey,” Ethan laughs. “Dewey. What kind of name is that?”

 “I think that’s one of Amber’s friends,” I remember.

 “Oh,” Ethan sweeps his leg and knocks me to the ground. “What is up with you, Tyler?”

 “Are you boys ready?” Richard bellows from the sidelines. I see that Tony is fighting with Skylar and Oscar.

 I spring back to my feet, “Bring it on.”

 Richard shrugs and runs toward me. He swings at me, and I duck to dodge him. Ethan punches his father in the back. I punch Richard in the jaw, and he growls.

 “Good,” Richard grins through bloody teeth.

 After a few more blows, Ethan and I take down Richard. Cole counts down, and we let the beta up. Oscar and Skylar took out Tony in a lot less time. My dad stands on the sidelines with his arms folded, watching the action.

 “Okay,” Cole stops all of us, “Now, it’s time to take down the alpha, “He grins at Dad.

 Dad cracks his knuckles and lets out a howl before shifting into his black wolf, Orion. ‘Shift,’ He orders in our heads. Richard and Tony remain on the sideline.

 We all do as he says. Orion circles us. ‘Fight,’ He hisses and lunges at Pollux. 

 Pollux snaps his jaws and dodges Orion. I jump in and stand at my brother’s side. Ethan and Oscar’s wolves, Bart and Judd, stand behind Orion. The four of us launch a calculated attack. We claw and bite at Orion. He holds his own against the four of us.

 ‘That’s all you got?’ Orion seems to be laughing at us.

 Pollux jumps on Orion’s back, and the silver wolf clamps onto the back of his neck. Orion bucks and growls. Castor bites at Orion’s paws while Bart and Judd bite onto his back legs. Orion falls to the ground rolling Pollux off him.

 “Finish him, boys,” Richard shouts from the sidelines.

 I clamp onto my father’s neck while the others hold him down. Orion whimpers as Cole walks over and counts down. “Ten!” Cole announces. “Okay, boys,” he says, and we all backoff. 

 Orion stands up and pants, ‘Good job,’ he says, shifting back into human form. ‘Shift,’ Dad orders us.

 We all shift and stand, waiting for the next assignment. 

 “That is all for this morning. Hit the showers,” Dad announces. “We have a lot of meetings to get through this morning, boys. So, dress for the occasion.” 

 We put our clothes back on and head towards the packhouse. Dad is walking a little ahead beside Richard. He glances back at me. “Tyler,” He calls to me.

 “Yeah?” I respond.

 “You seemed a little unfocused,” Dad mentions. “Care to tell me why?”

 I look at my twin, and he looks away, “I was thinking about Amber.”

 “I see,” Dad nods. “Does it have anything to do with her not wanting pups?”

 I sigh, “Yeah, that’s part of it.”

 “Just get her pregnant,” He chuckles. “She’ll come around.”

 “You want us just to get her pregnant?” I huff. 

 “Yeah,” Dad snorts. “Between the two of you, it shouldn’t take long.”

 “I don’t think Amber will like that,” I shake my head.

 “She may not at first, but that maternal instinct will turn on, and she’ll be fine,” Dad laughs. “So, what’s the other part?”

 I ponder for a moment. “She won’t say ‘I love you’ to us,” I complain.

 Dad looks at Richard. “Interesting. It may take her a bit to come around. I’m just happy that I don’t have to honor my deal with her,” He mentions.

 “Deal?” Skylar speaks up. “What deal?”

 Dad shrugs again, “Never mind.”

 “No, Dad, tell us,” Skylar demands.

 We stop walking, and Dad faces us. “I made a deal with Amber when she first came here. She was ready to reject you two, and I needed her not to do that.”

 “So, a deal?” I fold my arms.

 Richard is chewing on his lip.

 “Did you know about it, Beta?” I ask.

 The beta nods, “Of course, Vic tells me everything.”

 “You boys were still adamant about having Savannah as your Luna. I needed you to accept your fated mate and not just have her around,” Dad explains.

 “I accepted her,” I interject.

 “I know, son,” Dad holds his hands up. “I needed you both on board. I told Amber that you needed her. Savannah is an intelligent and beautiful woman, but she wasn’t your Luna. She would never have given you the strength I felt was needed to run this pack,” He continues. “So, I gave Amber an ultimatum.”

 “What?” Skylar snarls.

 “You know I want to retire next year and hand the pack to you two, right?” Dad looks us dead on, and we nod. “I wasn’t going to hand the pack to you if Savannah was your chosen Luna. I told Amber to convince you to choose her and not Savannah.”

 “What?” Skylar growls. 

 “Having a chosen mate would have weakened you,” Dad tries to justify. 

 “Who was going to get the pack, Dad?” Skylar growls. 

 Dad presses his lips together, “Dwight.”

 “Dwight!” Skylar yells.

 “Why Dwight?” I counter.

 “Your cousin accepted his fated mate, and while Miranda isn’t of alpha blood, the two of them would have been stronger than you two with your chosen mate. Amber is from two of the strongest Alpha lines, and the strength the three of you would have- “He pauses. “But you accepted, Amber, so don’t worry about it now.”

 “Dwight,” Skylar snorts, pushes past our father, and storms into the house.

 I just shook my head and trod after my twin. Skylar is standing by the elevators with his arms folded. “Are you okay?”

 “No,” Skylar mumbles. “I just learned that our father was going to hand the pack over to fucking Dwight. He’s an idiot. Why would Dad think he could handle Nightstar?”

 “I don’t know,” I shake my head.

 We get upstairs, and our mother is speaking to an omega down the hall. She smiles as we walk up. 

 “Good morning, boys,” She greets us. “Did you have a good training session?”

 “We took down Dad,” I announce.

 Mom laughs, “That’s my boys.”

 Skylar says nothing and heads to his room.

 “I’ll have them move your things into the big room today,” Mom says.

 “No rush,” I say and kiss her cheek. “We have to get dressed.”

 “Don’t forget to shower,” Mom wrinkles her nose and pats my arm.

 “Love you too, Mom,” I laugh and walk to my room. 

 While in the shower, I think about the one Skylar and I took with Amber. I touch myself as her moans echo in my head. “Oh, Amber,” I say as I lean against the tile. I finish the shower and dry off. I put on a pair of slacks with a grey button-up shirt. I comb my long hair back and leave my room. I stop at our shared room and peek in at Amber. She is sleeping soundly. I enter the room and hover over her for a moment.

 “She looks so serene,” Skylar appears, and I jump. 

 I lean down to kiss her cheek and lightly touch my mark. Skylar does the same, and she stirs.

 “Let’s not wake her,” I whisper.

 We walk out of the room and head down to the office. Ethan and Oscar are there with their dads. A small breakfast buffet is against the wall and my mouth waters.

 “Get something to eat,” Dad waves his hand. 

 I pile a few sausage links with a bagel and cream cheese on a plate. I make myself a little sandwich and devour it while chugging orange juice. Skylar is sitting next to me, wearing almost identical clothes, only his shirt is blue.

 After eating, Dad makes us all gather around a camera for our first meeting. “Our first meeting is with Mason Jackson of Red Stone and his daughter Beatrice,” Dad explains.

 “Isn’t that the chick who looks like a dude?” Skylar scoffs.

 “She is going to be the alpha of Red Stone,” Dad growls. “Show some respect.”

 “She’s cool,” I counter, and my brother gives me an annoyed side-eyed glance.

 

 The morning is spent doing video conferences with various alphas for different reasons. It's mostly dull, and my mind keeps wandering to Amber. Dad had mentioned that Amber was with Mom on her Luna errands. I hope Amber is getting on well with the pack.

 “Tyler?” Dad interrupts my thoughts. We are currently on a call with another alpha. 

 “Sorry,” I mutter.

 After the last meeting, it is almost lunch, and my stomach is rumbling with hunger. 

 “Okay,” Dad says after turning off the screen. “Let’s get ready to go to Oak Hollow,” Dad mentions our closest neighboring pack. “Alpha George needs our help.”

 We all stand and walk out of the office. I am hoping there will be food as I am starving. I also get a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. I sense danger then the image of my mother’s car flying end over end flashes through my mind.

 “Attack!” Dad shouts and then runs down the hall.

 Skylar and I follow, with Richard and Tony on our heels. We all shift as we get outside and run as fast as possible toward the trouble. We find Mom's car crumpled upside down on the road and Lilith being attacked by several vampires. Orion howls with rage, and we all run into the fight.
