Amber

 I growled with frustration as the elevator door closed on the twins and their father. My instincts and wolf were telling me that I needed to go with them, but Victor ordered me to stay here in the house. The elevator door opens, and I see Sheila coming down the hallway with Juli.

 “What’s wrong?” Sheila asks as I step off the elevator.

 The look on my face gave away my anger. “I was told to stay here,” I mutter.

 “Oh, right,” Sheila waves her hand and touches my arm. “Honey, Victor is just looking out for you.”

 I fold my arms and pull away from her, “I just feel like I should be down there.”

 “Most young Lunas feel that way,” Sheila snorts. “But soon, you will learn there are some things that only the men should take care of.”

 Her words anger me more, and I walk away from her. Lilith is mumbling in my head. ‘They need you,’ she whines.

 ‘The twins?’ I ask, and she doesn’t answer. I only sense danger, and my heart begins to race. I had just been released from the hospital this morning, but I was ready to run into a fight. I turn to see Sheila and Juli still standing by the elevators. A pained howl echoes in my head, and images of battle flash in my mind, sending me running towards the stairs while Sheila yells at me.

 I reach the bottom floor, fly out of the house, and shift midair. My large black wolf tears up the ground running towards the danger. Lilith is not about to let her mates get hurt. We burst through the woods, and the scent of battle is strong in the air as we run into the fight. I see my silver-coated mates fighting hard while a large reddish wolf is battling with a black one, I assume to be Victor.

 The black one yelps as the reddish one claws into his shoulder. The black one falters, and the red one appears to be preparing to deliver a final blow. Lilith lets out a powerful howl before charging toward the alphas.

 

 Skylar

 I was pitching a tent as Dad made us leave Amber in the elevator. I sensed her frustration at having to stay here in the house. 

 Dad looks my brother and me up and down, “Get rid of those tents, boys,” He jokes. “This is serious.”

 We get outside, and Dad starts taking off his clothes to shift. Tyler and I follow his lead, letting our wolves take over and running after our father’s black wolf, Orion. We reach the border, and Beta Richard and Gamma Tony are already there, along with Oscar and Ethan.

 We shift back into human form and are handed shorts. Alpha Timmons is just over the border with a dozen or so of his warriors.

 “What can I do for you, Keith?” Dad asks casually.

 Annoyance is apparent on Alpha Timmons’s face, “You know what I want, Victor,” Timmons hisses.

 “I want my son,” Beta Jason Timmons steps forward. “Where is he?”

 “Your son raped my daughter,” Richard yells.

 Jason scoffs, “Your daughter is his mate. It’s not rape.”

 “It was rape, you son of a bitch,” Richard growls and tries lunging at Jason. Dad stops him.

 “Oliver Timmons committed a crime, and he was sent to the council to be dealt with,” Dad states.

 “That’s bullshit.” Alpha Timmons yells. “Oliver did no such thing.”

 “You weren’t here, Keith, “Richard snarls. “I saw Oliver raping my daughter.”

 “He wasn’t raping her!” Beta Timmons growls.

 “You either produce Oliver now, or we attack,” Alpha Timmons threatens. 

 Dad folds his arms and glares at the other alpha. “Oliver isn’t here, Keith. Alpha Martin took him to the council to be dealt with.”

 Beta Timmons roars and lunges at my dad. Everyone shifts and begins attacking. Dozens of warriors from the Dark Knights pack come out of the woods to attack. Orion howls for reinforcements, and the fight worsens. 

 A wolf jumps on me and is pulled off by my twin. Tyler and I stand shoulder to shoulder to fight off the Dark Knights pack. It seems like they just keep coming. I notice a mysterious man standing just inside the tree line, watching the fray. I try to go towards him, but another wolf tackles me. 

 Tyler helps me out, and we fight a bunch of warriors together. A yelp makes me turn to see Orion fighting with a reddish wolf I assume to be Alpha Timmons’s wolf. I am distracted when I am bitten on the shoulder. Pollux growls viciously and leaps onto the wolf that bit us. I don’t see what is happening between Dad and Alpha Timmons. I hear a sharp howl, and everyone stops. A large black wolf is standing over Alpha Timmons's now still wolf. She is holding his bloody trachea in her jaws.

 Everyone still alive shifts back into human form. More Dark Knights wolves lay dead and dying while our warriors seemed to have escaped with mostly minor injuries. 

 Lilith stands over her victim and snarls as Dad approaches her.

 “Shift, Amber,” He orders.

 Tyler and I approach our mate as she spits out the flesh. “It’s okay, Amber,” Tyler tries to assure her.

 Lilith lets out a whimper as she turns back into my mate. Amber looks down at the dead alpha and shakes her head. “I-I- “She trembles.

 Tyler pulls her into his arms and holds her tight. “You didn’t do anything wrong,” He kisses her cheek.

 “She disobeyed me,” Dad growls.

 “She saved your life,” Tyler growls back.

 Amber looks at my father, “I’m sorry, Victor. I just couldn’t stay in the house. My instincts told me to come here and fight.”

 Dad sighs heavily and looks down at Alpha Timmons. “The Council is going to have to get involved, Amber. You killed an alpha.”

 Amber trembles and buries her face in Tyler’s chest. “I’m sorry.”

 Dad sniffles.

 “He’s dead!” Beta Jason runs over to his brother’s dead body. “The bitch killed her,” He snarls and glares at my mate.

 “She was defending our dad,” I counter. 

 “She had no right,” Jason leaps to his feet.

 “Your pack had no right to attack us,” I yell.

 “Skylar,” Dad holds his hand up, “My son is right. You attacked us. We defended ourselves,” He looks around at the carnage. Only a few of the Dark Knights' warriors are still standing.

 “This will not stand,” Jason growls.

 “You are right. It won’t,” Dad argues. “I am positive the Council will rule in our favor.”

 “Fuck you!” Jason looks at the remaining warriors, “Let’s get home,” He orders them. They all shift and run into the woods. 

 Dad sighs heavily. “This is a mess.”

 I see a shadow in the woods where the Dark Knights Pack ran. I notice the mysterious man staring back at me. He has pale, almost transparent skin and red eyes. ‘Vampire,’ I hiss and run towards him. The man disappears into the trees, and I stop.

 “Skylar!” Dad shouts.

 I run back to him.

 “What was that about?” He asks.

 “I saw a vampire,” I mutter.

 Dad looks at Tyler, “Maybe you and Tyler should take Amber home.”

 “No, Dad, we should help clean up,” Tyler tries to argue.

 Amber is a few feet away, wearing a large t-shirt and hugging herself. 

 “Take your mate home,” Dad snarls. “We will take care of this.”

 Tyler sighs and wraps his arm around Amber, “Come on, sweetie.” He starts back to the house, and I follow them.

 Amber is silent as we walk through the woods. I touch her arm, and she glances at me.

 “You fought well,” I compliment her.

 She shrugs, “I feel like I did something bad.”

 “Badass,” Tyler adds with a smirk.

 “Look, you disobeyed our father,” I start, and she narrows her eyes at me. “Thank you,” I say to her. “You saved his life. Alpha Timmons and his pack brought the fight to our borders. You should not be in trouble for defending your alpha.”

 “But I am technically not a part of this pack,” Amber argues. “The Council may not see it that way.”

 “You are our mate,” Tyler interjects. “That’s enough to make you a member of this pack.”

 ‘Mark her,’ Pollux whispers.

 I shake my head and ignore my wolf. 

 We return to the packhouse, and Mom is waiting outside with Juli and Rita, Gamma Tony’s mate. 

 “Is everyone okay?” Mom asks.

 “Thanks to Amber,” I smile at my mate. “She saved Dad.”

 Mom sniffles and pulls Amber into her arms, “Thank you.”

 Amber wraps her arms around my mother but says nothing.

 “We need to make her a member of this pack tonight,” Mom declares.

 ‘Mark her,’ Pollux hisses.

 “I just want a shower,” Amber mumbles and walks toward the house.

 Mom touches my arm, “We’ll make her a member tonight. I’ll talk to your father.”

 “Maybe we should sort through the mess of what happened first, Mom,” I respond, brushing past her and following Amber. 

` Corie is just inside the house with her two omega friends, “I heard there was an attack.”

 I pat my sister on the top of her head, “Everyone is fine, Corie.”

 “Good,” Corie smiles.

 Amber is down by the elevators with her arms folded.

 “Excuse us, Corie,” Tyler says and heads towards Amber. I follow my twin. 

 “Are you okay?” I ask my mate.

 She is hugging herself and staring at the floor. “I just want a shower.”

 The door slides open, and we all step onto the elevator. We ride to the top floor in silence. 

 ‘Mark her,’ Pollux keeps repeating. 

 I try to ignore him, but he is becoming increasingly insistent.

 ‘Castor is acting nuts,’ Tyler mind links me. ‘He wants us to mark her.’

 ‘Yeah, Pollux is repeating the same thing,’ I reply.

 We follow Amber to our shared room and step in. She says nothing and walks toward the bathroom. She stops and lets out a deep breath before turning to us. Her usually brown eyes are nearly black. She blinks, and they turn back to brown.

 “Mark me," Amber blurts out. "Now."
