 I watch in horror as the dirty rogues lunge at Lilith. She doesn’t hesitate, and in the blink of an eye, two already lay dead at her feet with their throats ripped out.

 Castor howls and jumps into the fight alongside Pollux. I pounce on a huge rogue, and we bite and slash at each other until I get the upper hand. I look over to see Pollux has taken one out already while Lilith is a whirlwind of fury.

 ‘Rogues on the east side,’ I call out through mind link.

 ‘We are coming, son,’ Dad says a moment later.

 Another rogue slams into me, and I fall to the side but am quickly up, and I dispatch him. Blood drips from my jaws as I see a rogue jump onto Lilith. 

 ‘No!’ Castor roars and knocks the rogue off his mate. Pollux pounces on it and rips the throat out.

 With a howl, several warriors join the fight as more rogues pour over the border and go straight for Lilith and Amber.

 The warriors instinctively go to protect Lilith like they know she is their Luna. 

 A loud howl shakes the ground, and my father’s dark grey wolf appears. He tackles a rogue to the ground and rips its throat out. ‘Keep at least one or two alive,’ He orders through mind link.

 Lilith howls as she stands over a pile of dead rogues. Before long, they are all dead or injured. Lilith pants heavily as blood drips from her solid black fur. 

 We all shift back to human form, including Amber. She is covered in wounds and scratches but has a smile. “That was fun,” She grins at me.

 “You did all of that?” Chaz, one of the warriors, asks. 

 Amber nods, and then I notice blood coming from a huge gash in her stomach.

 “Amber,” I shout as I run over to her.

 Her face goes pale as she falls to the ground.

 Skylar runs over, looking horrified. I know he feels her pain as I do.

 “Take her to the hospital, son,” Dad tells me.

 I scoop up Amber.

 “Hold her close to your skin,” He instructs me. “We’ll clean up,” he says and slaps my shoulder. 

 I hold Amber close as I take off running through the woods. Skylar stays just behind me. I can sense his worry for her. My twin pretends not to care about her, but I know he does. Sticks and rocks poke into my bare feet as I run. 

 ‘She’s going to be fine,’ Castor speaks up.

 It takes several minutes to reach the pack hospital, and Doctor Stevens is waiting for us.

 “Set her on the stretcher,” He instructs me.

 Amber moans as I lay her down. The bleeding seems to have slowed, but it’s still a mess. Skylar and I follow as the doctor and several nurses push the stretcher into the building. We enter the emergency room and watch Dr. Stevens work on our mate.

 “Don’t worry, Alphas,” a nurse we both went to school with comes up to us, “We’ll make sure our Luna has the best care.”

 “She isn’t our Luna,” Skylar mutters.

 I glare at him but say nothing. 

 “Here,” another nurse hands us shorts. “You can clean up in another room if you wish.”

 I look down and am covered in blood and wounds, “No, I prefer to stay right here,” I say while keeping an eye on Amber. I notice that Skylar refuses to leave also.

 Half an hour passes, and the doctor walks over to us, “She’s stable.”

 I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding.

 “Her wound was deep but luckily didn’t hit any major organs. It should heal within a day or so with you two near,” He tells us. “She just needs rest now.”

 I nod as I watch them wheel Amber out of the room. Skylar and I follow it to a recovery room. Amber has a large bandage across her stomach, but luckily she isn’t hooked up to any machines. I sit beside the bed and clasp her cold hand.

 “How is she, son?” Dad steps into the room. He is wearing just a pair of shorts.

 “She’s stable,” Skylar responds.

 “Thank the goddess,” Dad sighs. “The warriors says she took out most of those rogues.”

 I nod, “She did.”

 “The Goddess blessed you, boys, with her as your mate,” Dad mentions.

 “She isn’t our mate, Dad,” Skylar mumbles.

 “You say that Skylar, but you fought to defend her. And the doctor told me you two haven’t left her side,” He says while my twin shifts uncomfortably. “You both should clean up and put some clothes on. Amber will be fine as long as you stay close.”

 I sigh. I had forgotten to put the shorts on and was still covered in blood and scratches. “Are any of the rogues alive?” I ask my father.

 “Three,” Dad replies. “Richard and Tony are interrogating them right now. I’m about to go join them.”

 “We’ll go too,” Skylar demands.

 “No, you stay here,” Dad orders him.

 “Dad,” Skylar growls.

 “Skylar Vincent,” Dad juts a finger at him. “Do as I say.”

 Skylar huffs as Dad leaves us. “I’m going to shower,” He mumbles and stomps out of the room.

 I remain sitting beside Amber. Her eyes appear to be moving, and her fingers twitch. I wonder what she is dreaming about. A slight smile appears on her beautiful face as I lightly stroke her hand. 

 “You are so beautiful,” I say to her. “You did magnificent fighting those rogues. I am sorry they came after you.”

 “Mom,” She mumbles.

 “Amber,” I say to her, but her eyes remain closed. 

 Minutes go by, and Skylar walks back into the room. He is wearing a pair of black shorts and a grey tank top. “Shower is free.”

 I hesitate to get up.

 “Dude, Tyler, she will be okay. I’ll stay here with her,” He volunteers.

 “But you don’t care about her,” I huff sarcastically.

 He rolls his eyes, “Fine. Then sit there and smell like shit.”

 I slowly stand up. “Let me know if anything changes,” I say, kissing her forehead.

 Skylar slinks over to the chair and flops down. 

 I exit the room and go down the hall to another room. A set of clothes sits on a counter as I step into the bathroom. The hot shower stings my wounds as I watch the blood wash off. It takes several minutes to wash it all off. I lean my head against the tile. I need to know why the rogues seemed to be after Amber.

 ‘She isn’t like other wolves,’ Castor mentions.

 ‘Well, I mean, Lilith is huge,’ I respond.

 ‘That’s not it.’

 I shake my head and turn off the shower. I take my time to dry off while my mind goes over the fight. I put on the shorts and tank top and wander back to Amber’s room. She is still asleep, and Skylar is just staring at her.

 “What?” I ask him.

 “They targeted her,” He looks at me. 

 “I noticed that, too,” I say. “I wonder if Dad got anywhere with the rogues.”

 Skylar shrugs, “I don’t know.”

 I pull another chair to the other side of the bed and sit down. Skylar is lightly touching Amber’s arm. I can’t help but smile at my twin.

 We both sit quietly, watching her. There is a light knock on the door, and Mom pokes her head into the room. 

 “How is she?” She asks.

 “She is stable,” I reply.

 “That’s good,” She steps into the room, and Corie is behind her.

 My sister frowns as she looks at Amber. “I hope she will be okay.”

 “She’ll be fine, Corie,” Skylar assures her. 

 “She is a strong fighter,” I add.

 Amber makes a moaning sound and stirs on the bed. 

 “Open your eyes,” I mutter to her. “Please.”

 Her eyes flutter open for a second and then close again. A minute later, she is snoring.

 “Why isn’t she waking up?” I ask with frustration.

 Mom touches my shoulder, “She just needs rest, honey.”

 “I hate seeing her like this,” I whine.

 “I know, Tyler,” Mom rubs my back. “But she is going to be just fine. I know it.”

 My stomach growls, and Mom laughs.

 “Why don’t you two go get something to eat?” She speaks. “Corie and I will stay here with Amber.”

 “I don’t want to leave, Mom,” I state.

 “She will be fine. We’ll tell you the moment anything changes,” Mom practically pulls me to my feet. “You too, Skylar. Get something to eat and rest.”

 Skylar shoots to his feet, “Yes, Mom.” He eyes Amber before walking out of the room.

 I hesitate as Mom and Corie sit on either side of the bed.

 “Go, Tyler,” Mom narrows her eyes at me.

 I sigh, “Fine.” I reluctantly stroll out of the room. I get down the hall, and Skylar is talking to Savannah.

 “Is she alright?” I hear Savannah ask.

 “Yeah, she will be alright,” Skylar reaches out to touch Savannah, but she backs away. “What’s wrong?”

 “I don’t think you should touch me while your mate is trying to recover,” Savannah explains. 

 “You are my mate,” Skylar whines. 

 “Skylar,” Savannah shakes her head with tears in her eyes. “Tell Amber I hope she is alright,” She sniffles and rushes away.

 “Savannah,” Skylar calls after her. He growls and punches the wall causing it to crack. “Amber is ruining everything.”

 “How?” I ask.

 Skylar glares at me and then storms away.

 I sigh and walk to the hospital cafeteria. The smell of food makes my stomach rumble as I step in. I walk over to the line and see they have enchiladas. 

“Oh, give me some of those,” I point.

 “Right away, young alpha,” An older worker grins at me.

 I sit down alone at a table and dig into the food. While eating, my mind goes to wondering why the rogues attacked. I intend to find out. I hope my father can get answers. 

 “Hey, buddy, “Ethan suddenly sits down. “Is your mate alright?”

 “She will be,” I say between bites of food. 

 “Good,” He nods. “I like her.”

 “It seems a lot of the pack likes her,” I chuckle.

 “Well, I mean, I heard she fought those rogues like they were nothing,” Ethan remarks. “I wish I could have seen it.”

 “She was magnificent to watch,” I smile.

 “And I heard her wolf is huge,” He uses his hands as he speaks. “I mean, she’s bigger than you and your dad’s wolf.”

 “She is,” I nod. “She comes from two strong Alpha lines.”

 “Is that alright with you?” Ethan laughs.

 “It’s fine with me,” I shrug.

 “But not Skylar,” Ethan huffs.

 I look at my best friend, “You know how he is.”

 “I know. But he made my sister cry,” Ethan frowns. “I know you both love Savannah.”

 “Look, I see Savannah as a sister,” I tell him. “There was a time I loved her as more, but- “

 “I get it. She is convinced that her mate is coming tomorrow,” Ethan tells me.

 “Tomorrow?” 

 “Yeah, my Dad said the Dark Knights Pack is coming tomorrow,” Ethan mentions.

 “I didn’t know,” I shake my head.

 “Oh,” Ethan shrugs.

 “But I am okay with Savannah finding her mate,” I say as I sip soda. 

 “Skylar won’t be,” Ethan shakes his head.

 “Yeah,” I sigh. “Did your Dad and mine get anywhere with the rogues?”

 “They aren’t talking,” Ethan shakes his head. 

 “Shit,” I mutter.

 “Give them some time without food or water, and they will start talking,” Ethan chuckles.

 “I hope so,” I say as I finish my food. “I have a strange feeling. Like the rogues were targeting Amber.”

 ‘Tyler,’ My mom mind links me. ‘Amber is awake.’

 I shoot out of my seat, “She’s awake.” I say and rush out of the cafeteria. 

I get to the room at the same time as Skylar. My twin and I stare at each other for a moment before going in.

 Mom and Corie are standing to the side while the doctor is talking to Amber. My mate is sitting up, and she appears much better than earlier. 

 “Hi,” I say to her.

 “Boys,” Dad says from the doorway. “I need to talk to you.”

 “Dad, Amber just woke up,” I point out.

 He nods, “I know, but it’s about Amber,” he says quietly. 

 “What about me?” Amber asks.

 “It’s alright, sweetie, don’t worry about it,” Dad smiles at her. He nods his head and walks out of the room.

 “We’ll be right back,” I say to Amber, and she glares at me. Skylar and I leave the room and find our father down the hallway. “What’s up, Dad?”

 “Those rogues were sent to kidnap your mate,” He blurts out.
