 “What about me?” I shout a second time as Tyler walks out of the room. “Tyler,” I yell and try to get out of bed. 

 Sheila rushes towards me and presses her hand on my chest, “You have to stay, honey.”

 “But why are the alpha and the twins talking about me,” I say and look at the door. A sharp pain cuts through me, and I hiss. “Fuck,” I scowl. “I hate being so god damned weak!” I had just woken up and been told I was injured in the fight with the rogues. 

	Sheila, does her best to calm me, “Weak? From what I heard, you were anything but weak. Even the best warriors get hurt sometimes,” She says while lifting her dress and showing me a deep scar across her belly. 

 I stare at the scar, “Ouch.” I fold my arms, “I want to know what they are saying. Shouldn’t I be involved?”

 Sheila shrugs, “If Victor wanted you involved, you would be.”

 I fold my arms and grumble. ‘Lilith, do you know what they are saying?’ I ask my wolf.

 ‘No,’ She huffs with frustration. ‘Castor and Pollux have me blocked.’

 ‘What is the big secret?’ I ask her.

 “Here,” Sheila hands me a phone. “Call your family.”

 I take the phone and dial my father’s number. It rings a few times.

 “Hello?” My father says hesitantly.

 “Dad,” I shout. “It’s me, Amber.”

 “Amber,” He says. I hear other voices in the background. “I didn’t recognize the number.”

 “I’m using Luna Sheila’s phone,” I tell him.

 “Oh, okay,” He chuckles. “What’s up, sweetie?”

 “I’m in the hospital,” I mutter.

 “What?” He yells, and the other voices get quiet.

 “What’s going on, Flynt?” I hear my uncle ask.

 “Amber, what happened? Are you alright?” Dad asks in a slight panic.

 “I’m fine,” I tell him. “I just have a gash across my belly.”

 “That doesn’t sound like you are fine, Amber,” Dad sighs.

 “I was running in the woods with the twins, and rogues attacked us,” I explain. 

 There is a moment of silence on the other end. Then I hear whispering. 

 “They are after her again,” I hear my grandfather say.

 “Dad?” I call him. “Dad, speak to me.”

 “Amber, I’ll have to get back to you,” He says suddenly and hangs up.

 “Dad,” I shout and sigh.

 Sheila and Corie are staring at me, “What’s wrong?”

 “I don’t know,” I grumble. “Everyone is being weird.”

 The phone rings, and I pick it up, “Hello.”

 “Amber,” Uncle Henry speaks. 

 “Hi, Uncle Henry,” I greet him as Tyler and Skylar walk back into my room, looking grim. I ignore them for a second to focus on my uncle. “What’s going on?”

 “Did the rogues seem like they were targeting you?” He asks.

 “I don’t know. I didn't have time to figure out if there were targeting anyone,” I respond.

 He sighs as there is a moment of silence. I sense he is mind-linking my father and grandfather, “Don’t worry, Amber. We have this under control.”

 “Have what under control?” I yell.

 “I’ll see you tomorrow,” my uncle says and hangs up the phone.

 “Uncle Henry,” I huff as I drop the phone.

 “That was your uncle?” Tyler asks as he sits beside me.

 “Yeah,” I snort. “What did your Dad tell you?”

 Tyler looks at his twin and shrugs, “Nothing.”

 “Tyler,” I yell again. “What the fuck is going on?” I say as pain causes me to cry out.

 “Honey, you need to relax,” Tyler touches my chest. 

 Tingles spread through my body, and the pain goes away. I lay against the bed as tears well up in my eyes, “What is everyone keeping from me?”

 Skylar sits on the other side of the bed and touches my hand. I stare at him for a moment but say nothing as the tingles from both of them feel good.

 “Just rest,” Tyler strokes my forehead.

 My eyes droop, and I fall asleep. 

 I find myself walking through the woods at home. I see my younger self with my mother. She had taken me on a hike. She is looking around cautiously when I get ahead of her.

 “Amber,” She calls to me. “Amber, get back here.”

 I hear a growl and watch a group of rogues run toward me. My mother’s large wolf cuts them off, and she fights like hell.

 ‘RUN!’ She shouts through the mind link.

 “MOM!” I scream.

 ‘RUN, AMBER!’ She screams as the rogues overtake her.

 I run from her but stop. I turn to see her wolf being torn limb from limb. Tears run down my cheeks as I scream. The rogues turn their attention to me and run toward me. I scream and start running.

 Pack wolves pass me, and my brother catches me. I fall into his arms and hear a pained howl from our father’s wolf.

 “Mom is dead,” Dylan tells me.

 “What?” I cry and fall to my knees.

 “Mom is dead,” He repeats.

 “Mom,” I mutter.

 

 “Mom,” I say as I am lightly shaken.

 “Amber,” Tyler’s voice says as I open my eyes.

 Tears are streaming down my cheeks. I sniffle and sit up. “I need to talk to the rogues.”

 “What?” Tyler huffs. 

 “You can’t talk to the rogues,” Skylar says, and I am surprised he is still beside me.

 “You are still here?” I scoff.

 He rolls his eyes, “Yeah, Dad won’t let me leave.”

 “Skylar,” Tyler drawls and looks at me. “Honey, what do you mean you have to talk to the rogues? What rogues?”

 I try getting off the bed. The pain is less than before, but I still get a twinge. “The ones that attacked us. I need to talk to them. Didn’t your dad say a couple of them were still alive?”

 “Yeah,” Tyler nods. “But-“

 “Let’s go talk to them,” I demand and try to get up. 

 Tyler holds me down.

 I slap his hand away and put my feet on the cold ground.

 “We can’t do that,” Tyler argues. 

 “Why not?” I hiss. “I need to know why they attacked us or me. They were looking for me, weren’t they?” I stare at him.

 Tyler looks away, so I turn to Skylar. He has his usual hard look but softens slightly.

 “They were looking for you,” He confesses.

 “Skylar,” Tyler grumbles.

 I stand up and falter slightly. I am wearing only a light gown that opens in the back.

 “You have a cute butt,” Skylar snickers.

 I narrow my eyes at him, “Get me some clothes and take me to where the pack is keeping the rogues.”

 “No,” Tyler protests.

 “I’ll take you down there,” Skylar speaks up and disappears for a second.

 “Skylar,” Tyler shouts after him.

 I hear the doctor say something to Skylar outside the room. They argue for a second, and then Skylar enters the room and sets some clothes on the bed.

 “We’ll wait outside,” Skylar says, pulling his brother out of the room.

 ‘What is going on?’ I wonder.

 Lilith is quiet as I get dressed. It’s just a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt. I leave the room, and the twins appear to be having an intense mind-link conversation.

 “I’m ready,” I say.

 Tyler lets out a deep sigh. “This is a bad idea. You need to rest.”

 “I feel fine,” I wave my hand despite my pain. 

 We walk out of the room. The doctor and nurses watch silently. The doctor wants to say something, but Skylar must have given him an order, so he stays silent. 

 “The cells are just behind the hospital,” Skylar points.

 It’s a cool night as we walk behind the hospital toward a grey brick building. It looks ancient, with moss growing all over it. Several guards are walking around it. I freeze when I see Cal Walker among them.

 He looks right at me.

 “He got demoted,” Tyler whispers as we keep walking.

 We reach a large iron door, and Skylar puts a code into a number pad. Two guards watch us but say nothing as he opens the door.

 It resembles a typical wolf pack dungeon with large iron doors and metal walkways. There is a desk with a bank of monitors on it. A thin guard stands up.

 “Alphas,” He acknowledges the towns. He eyes me, “What are we doing?”

 “We are here to see the rogues we captured earlier,” Skylar responds.

 “Does your father know about that?”

 “No,” Tyler mutters.

 The guard picks up a phone, but Skylar knocks it out of his hand. 

 “Do not call our father,” He growls in a deep tone. The guard stiffens, “Let us in, Leo,” He orders the guard.

 Leo sighs and presses a button. A buzzer goes off, and Skylar opens the large iron gate. He gestures for me to go ahead.

 “Welcome to hell,” He grins.

 I shake my head as I step into the dungeon. I hear moans and groans coming from within. The twins enter after me. “Why are you helping me?” I ask Skylar. “Why aren’t you with Savannah?”

 He presses his lips together, “Savannah won’t talk to me. So I had nothing better to do,” He scowls. We glare at each other for a moment.

 “You two should get a room,” Tyler breaks the silence.

 “The rogues are down here,” Skylar growls, leading us down the narrow hallway. He stops at a door with no window and a number pad beside it. Skylar presses a code and opens the door.

 The stench of rogues makes me gag. I look into the dark room as Skylar turns on a dim light. Two rogues are chained to the wall. Both are naked and covered in wounds. They both open their eyes and stare at us.

 I look at them for a long moment. “Who are you?” I finally say.

 Both rogues stare and say nothing.

 “Hey,” Skylar kicks one of them. “My mate is speaking to you.”

 A strange tingle goes through my body when he says, ‘my mate.’ 

 The kicked rogue coughs and sneers at Skylar, “I ain’t saying shit,” His voice is gravelly.

 “Did you attack this pack for a reason?” I demand and step towards them.

 “Yes,” The other rogue responds.

 “Why?” I shout.

 “Don’t you know?” He laughs. “You are special, girl.”

 I glare at him, “I’m just me.”

 “Sure you are,” The other rogue laughs. “No, we were paid to kidnap you.”

 “What? Why?” I shout again.

 “Don’t know. Don’t care,” He shrugs. “I just got paid, and my family gets to eat.”

 “You don’t know who paid you?”

 “Boys!” Victor shouts and steps into the cell. “Amber, you are supposed to be resting.”

 “I need to know why these two were paid to kidnap me,” I point at the rogues.

 “Outside, now,” Victor growls.

 The three of us do nothing, and I turn to the rogues, “Why were you trying to kidnap me?”

 “Amber,” Tyler grabs me and tries to pull me from the cell.

 “Why were you trying to kidnap me?” I scream and struggle to get away from Tyler. 

 He holds on tightly to me and drags me out of the cell. 

 “Tyler!” I punch him as the room spins. Pain shoots from my wound, and I black out. The dream of my mother being killed repeats in my head, and I wake up crying for her. I am once again in the hospital. Tyler is curled up beside me on the chair while Skylar is not in the room. I notice the sun is rising, and I try to get out of bed.

 Tyler growls and opens his eyes, “What are you doing?” 

 “Getting up,” I grumble. “It’s time for training.”

 “Training?” Tyler laughs. “Honey, you can’t go to training.”

 “I always go to training,” I whine.

 “I bet,” He laughs. “The doctor says you need a few days to recover.”

 “Fuck,” I whine and lay against the pillow. “Where is Skylar?”

 Tyler shrugs, “Who knows.”

 “What happened last night? One second I was in the cells, and then-“

 “You passed out. The wound started to bleed, and you had to be rushed back here,” He says with a worried frown. 

 “I’m sorry,” I look down. 

 “Dad was pretty angry, but you aren’t in trouble as long as you don’t do that again,” Tyler explains. 

 “Did the rogues say anything else?” I wonder.

 “I don’t know. I was the one that had to rush you here again,” He folds his arms.

 “Damn!” I slam my head against the pillow. 

 “Just rest, Amber. We’ll figure out what is going on together, okay?” He tells me. 

 Victor steps into the room, looking angry, “Today is going to be a disaster.”

 “Why?” Tyler asks.

 “Because not only is Alpha Timmons coming today, but so is Alpha Martin and the Elite Squad,” He announces.
