Savannah

 

 “Mate!” The chocolate brown wolf hisses.

 

 I am jolted awake by my mother knocking on my door. “Savannah,” She opens the door. “Are you up?” 

 “No,” I grumble. I look at my clock, and it is nearly seven am. I sigh and sit up.

 “Well, your father wanted you to be out front when the wolves from the Dark Knights Pack get here,” She stands near my bed.

 I hold my head, “I know, Mom.”

 “Skylar was also asking for you,” She sighs. “Poor guy can’t get the hint, huh?”

 I shake my head. “I’ll be downstairs, Mom.” 

 “Okay,” She smiles and saunters out of my room.

 I slowly get out of bed. My head is a mess. I have been dreaming about my mate for a week. Aja has been adamant about being with him and not the twins. I look at a picture of me between Skylar and Tyler. I pick it up and stare at it for a few moments. 

 I have known Skylar and Tyler my entire life. We all grew up together. Tyler is Ethan’s best friend. So, it was inevitable that we all hooked up. Skylar was the one that pushed for me to be their chosen mate. Tyler was never entirely on board. I love them, but I am not in love with them. And since Amber arrived, things have changed. 

 My wolf Aja had never liked it when I had sex with the twins. She was never okay with me being their chosen mate. ‘Your real mate is out there.’ She would always tell me.

 I get into my bathroom and stare at the reflection. My heart is racing as Aja is up and pacing in my head.

 ‘He is coming,’ She keeps saying.

 I can only pray that my true mate is a good man. Skylar didn’t have anything good to say about the Dark Knights Pack. He told me how the alpha treated his mate like a servant, and the omegas were treated poorly.

 It made me nervous. I don’t like seeing anyone mistreated. I have always tried to treat everyone in this pack with respect. I was the quintessential cheerleader type in high school but never a bully. 

 I take a long shower and think about everything happening. From the day Amber arrived, I knew the twins would not mark me. Skylar could deny how he feels about Amber all he wanted. But I know he has feelings for her. I sensed it in the way he kissed me. I felt it. Kissing him was like kissing my brother.

 After the shower, I quickly dry off and braid my hair. I put on a pair of black slacks and a silky blue blouse with a black jacket. I finish my look with some light makeup.

 “Savannah?” Mom called me again. “Are you ready?”

 “Yes, Mom,” I sigh.

 “Well, your father and brother are already downstairs,” She announces. 

 I nod and follow her out of my room. My hands are shaking as Aja’s pacing, and whining intensifies. Mom puts her arm around me.

 “It will be okay, honey,” She kisses my cheek. “I was nervous when I first met your father too.” 

	We reach the elevator, and it opens. Luna Sheila, and Corie are inside. I smile at them. Corie and I have always had a rollercoaster relationship. We were friends as kids, but she flip-flopped when I started dating her brothers. Sometimes Corie was friendly, and sometimes she was hostile. Since Amber arrived, she has been nice again.

	“Hi,” I greet Corie.

	“You look nice,” Corie grins.

	“Thanks,” I nod. “How is Amber? Is she still in the hospital?” 

	“Amber will be just fine,” Sheila responds. “She is being released later today.”

	I nod, “Good.” I feel relieved as I like Amber. I wanted to dislike her for being the twins' real mate, but she made it hard to dislike. 

	The door opens, and I see the twins down the hall with their father, who is talking to my father. Skylar approaches me. He has an intense look on his handsome face. My heart barely twitches seeing him in a nice suit with his black hair slicked back.

	“Savannah,” He reaches for me, and I back away.

	“Good morning, Skylar,” I say informally.

	“Do you hate me now?” He asks.

	“No, Skylar,” I shake my head and lightly touch his cheek. “I will always love you and Tyler, but- “

	“But you are throwing everything away from a stranger,” He hisses.

	“I’m sorry,” I say quietly.

	“Savannah,” Dad calls to me. 

	I walk away from Skylar without looking back. 

	“Are you nervous?” Dad asks while putting his arm around me and kissing my cheek.

	I nod, “Yeah, Aja is going nuts.”

	“That’s good,” He touches my arm. 

	“The Dark Knights Pack just entered the territory,” Gamma Tony announces.

	I notice that Alpha Victor looks nervous, which I find odd. “Hey Ethan,” I beckon to my brother.

	“What’s up?” 

	“Why is Victor acting weird?” I ask.

	“Oh, because Amber’s old pack is coming today, too,” My brother responds.

	“Why is that a bad thing?” I laugh.

	“I guess Alpha Timmons doesn’t like Alpha Martin,” He shrugs.

	“Really? This should be interesting,” I mumble as we get outside and line up by rank. 

	A line of black Escalades drives up. Our omegas are quick to open the doors. I watch a rather fat man in a suit slide out. He chomps on a cigar, and I wrinkle my nose at the stench. Moments later, I am distracted by the scent of mocha. 

	More large men file out of the cars, and I am not sure who is who. Alpha Victor steps forward to greet the fat man. I hear a loud growl, and in a flash, I am grabbed and held against a hard as rock chest.

	“Mine!” He growls.

My fear engages, and I struggle to get away from this stranger who smells like mocha. “Let me go,” I cry.

	“Let my daughter go,” I hear my father say.

	The one holding me growls, “She is mine!”

	“Oliver, let her go,” I hear another man say. 

	“She is my mate,” Oliver holds me tighter.

	My wolf is whining in fear rather than being excited. 

	“Let go of Savannah,” I hear another strange voice say.

	“But Uncle Keith,” Oliver whines.

	“She isn’t going anywhere, right Victor?” I hear the one I assume to be Uncle Keith say.

	“That is correct, Keith,” Victor responds.

	Oliver eventually lets me go, and I step away from him. I catch my breath before finally looking at him. He is very handsome with hazel eyes and dirty blonde hair. He isn’t the tallest, but he is very muscular. 

	‘Mate,’ Aja says quietly.

	“I’m Savannah,” I hold out my hand.

	Oliver pulls me against him again, “Mine.”

	“Oliver,” I hear someone admonish him.

	I am rereleased and look around. Skylar is being held back by his brother. Everyone else looks tense. 

	“Hello, Savannah,” The fat man holds a hand out. “I am Keith Timmons, Alpha of Dark Knights,” He introduces himself. “This is my nephew and future beta, Oliver,” He pats Oliver’s shoulder. 

	I look at my mate, and his gaze is still intense. I wish he would relax as he is scaring my wolf.

	“Why don’t we all go inside?” Alpha Victor says and gestures for the house.

	“We have a lovely brunch set out,” Luna Sheila adds.

	“That would be great,” Alpha Keith says.

	“I’m staying here with my mate,” Oliver snarls.

	“Oliver, why don’t you come inside with the rest of us,” Another man resembling Alpha Keith says. He smiles at me, “I’m Jason Timmons, the Beta of Dark Knights and his father.”

	“Hi,” I say as Oliver growls. “I guess we’ll stay here for a few minutes and talk,” I flutter my eyelashes at Oliver.

	“Okay,” Jason nods and leans in, “Try not to scare the poor girl away.” 

 I watch as Skylar has to be dragged inside by his twin and father. I sigh at the look on his face. I was so eager to meet my mate, and now I am not so sure. The only sense I am getting from Oliver is anger. “So- “

 “Why do you smell like other men?” He demands with a growl. “I am the only man you will be near for now on.”

 I narrow my eyes at him, “You mean my father and brother?” I snort. 

 “No, you smell like the twins,” He scowls.

 I roll my eyes, “I don’t think this is going to work,” I start to walk away, and he grabs me.

 Oliver slams me against the wall, and I yelp as a nail is jammed into my back, “You are pretty, I’ll give you that,” He kisses me, and tingles spread through my body, but I do not like the kiss. 

 I push him away, but he presses himself against me, causing the nail to go deeper into my back. “There is a nail in my back,” I whine as he grabs my throat.

 “You will only speak when given permission,” Oliver hisses. “Do you understand?”

 Tears well up in my eyes, and I nod, “Yes.”

 He pulls away from me, and I fall to my knees. “Get up," He yanks me to my feet.

 I take a deep breath and stand up. I refuse to be abused and look Oliver in the eyes, “I, Savannah Harper Grant, rej-“

 “What are you doing?!” Oliver yells as he clamps his hand over my mouth. “I have waited a long time for you.”

 I glare at him as I try to push his hand off my mouth, “I don’t want to be abused,” I finally get out when he moves his hand.

 “Abused? Who is abusing you?” Oliver snorts.

 “You told me I can only speak with permission,” I fold my arms. “And then- “

 “Oh,” Oliver sighs and smiles. There is something sinister behind his smile. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart. My wolf Cash is quite the hot head. It was his fault.”

 I look at him and try to discern whether he is telling the truth.

 “Please give me a chance,” He holds his hands together. “I will try to keep Cash in check.”

 ‘Is he lying?’ I ask Aja, but she is still cowering. 

 “Please, Savannah,” He begs.

 I take a deep breath. “Fine, I’ll give you a chance.”

 Oliver holds his hand out to me. “Care to show me where the dining room is? I’m hungry.”

 I nod with a slight smile, and we go into the packhouse. I feel the eyes of pack members on me as we walk. My mother approaches us as we reach the dining hall.

 “Hello, Oliver,” Mom smiles at him. “You are very handsome, aren’t you?”

 Oliver nods.

 “I am Julianna Grant, Savannah’s mother,” She holds his hand.

 “It’s very nice to meet you, Ms. Grant,” Oliver replies to my mother, sounding like the ultimate boy next door.

 “Juli,” Dad calls to her and walks over to us. “Oliver,” Dad gives him a look. “Is your wolf and hormones under control?”

 “Yes, Beta,” Oliver nods.

 “Good,” Dad grins, “You better take good care of my daughter.”

 Oliver wraps his arm around me, “I’ll take excellent care of her.”

 I shudder as he speaks. Aja is whining in my head, and I have a bad feeling about everything. ‘It’s just nerves,’ I try to tell myself.

 We enter the dining hall, and I sit with Oliver at the VIP table.

 “It’s wild that the whole pack is eating together,” Oliver’s father shakes his head. “And even the omegas,” He sneers with disgust.

 “Some of my friends are omegas,” I state.

 Oliver scoffs, “Well, you won’t have omega friends at Dark Knights.”

 I frown at that and get up. 

 “Speaking of omegas- “Oliver looks around.

 “Don’t bother, son,” Jason shakes his head. “We have to serve ourselves.”

 “What?” Oliver shakes his head. “Honey,” He grins at me. “Why don’t you get me some food?”

 “Okay,” I say through gritted teeth. “What would you like?”

 “Oh, just a pile of eggs, some bacon, and maybe some toast,” He instructs me.

 I nod and walk over to the buffet. Gina is behind the line stirring dishes.

 “Is that your mate?” She asks with a smile.

 “Yeah,” I say without enthusiasm.

 “You don’t sound so excited,” Gina frowns.

 “I guess it’s just jitters,” I laugh as I pile a plate full of eggs and bacon for Oliver.

 “Yeah, they seem intense,” Gina nods. 

 I take the plate back to the table and set it in front of Oliver. I catch a glimpse of Skylar glaring at me, and I smile at him. 

 “Get me some coffee, babe,” Oliver slaps my ass. “Cream and sugar too.”

 “Yes,” I say and wander back to the buffet. ‘Aja,’ I call to my wolf. ‘It’s going to be alright,’ I tell her.

 ‘I don’t know,’ She mumbles. ‘Cash is a very dominant wolf. He doesn’t like strong-willed she-wolves.’

 I get a couple of cups of coffee and return to the table. “I’m getting food for myself now,” I tell Oliver, and he grunts between mouthfuls of eggs. 

 “How is it going with your mate?” Corie asks beside me. “He seems intense,” She laughs. “Skylar wanted to kill him.”

 I sniffle, “It’s going,” I respond. 

 Corie presses her lips together, “That bad?”

 “It’s just nerves,” I say and smile at her. I take my food and sit beside Oliver. 

 “Get me some more eggs,” He demands as I try to put a forkful of food in my mouth. 

He looks at my plate with French toast and bacon. “French toast? Shouldn’t you get something less fattening?”

 I shudder and get up, “I like French toast.”

 Oliver shakes his head, “Get me some.”

 I go back to the buffet and feel the eyes of my friends on me. I want to pretend it will be alright with Oliver, but I have a sickening feeling in my stomach. Aja cowering is all I need to know, and I want to reject Oliver. ‘Being alone would be preferable to him.’

 I dish up French toast for Oliver and take it back to him. I try to eat, and he shoves the coffee cup before me. 

 “I need more coffee,” He practically snorts like a pig as he speaks.

 “I’m trying to eat,” I whine.

 Oliver growls and clasps my hand tightly, “You are my mate now. You do as I say,” He hisses lowly in my ear.

 I nod and get up, “Yes.”

 “What are you, his slave?” Gina scoffs.

 “We are just getting to know each other,” I wipe my nose as she pours some coffee into the cup. “I need cream and sugar too.”

 “I don’t like him, Savannah,” Gina glares at Oliver.

 I get back to the table and finally eat my cold food. Oliver says very little as we eat. “So, what do you like to do for fun?”

 “I don’t have time for that,” He grumbles.

 I see that Alpha Victor and my dad are standing up. Victor looks nervous as he talks to Dad. 

 “What’s going on?” Alpha Keith asks Jason.

 Victor walks toward us, “Alpha Timmons, I apologize, but I have other visitors who just arrived, and I must attend to them.”

 “Who?” Alpha Keith demands.

 Victor takes a deep breath, “Alpha Henry Martin of Shadow Winds.”

 “What?” Alpha Keith stands up with a growl.

 “He is my son’s mate’s uncle,” Alpha Victor blurts out. “He is just here to visit his niece.”

 The tension in the room suddenly feels physical as Alpha Keith lets out a low menacing growl. Oliver leans toward me.

 “My uncle doesn’t like that asshole, Henry Martin. This should be fun,” My mate laughs and stands up. “Come on,” He grabs me and pulls me to my feet.
