Another View

Skylar and I do most of the fighting. Tyler stands and watches from the side. Skylar has no problem with punching and seems to be enjoying me punching him. I do manage to spar with Tyler and knock him to the ground. 

 Toward the end of the fight, Skylar grabs my wrists and gets close to my face. His scent envelops me, and for a moment, I am taken in by the bond as tingles shoot down my wrists. Lilith cheers and howls happily in my head as I close my eyes to anticipate a kiss.

 His lips brush against mine, and tingles explode. The feeling is too much, so I open my eyes and growl. I knee Skylar in the nuts causing him to let go of me. I then punch him hard in the gut, and he falls to his knees while letting out a pained whimper.

 Lilith whimpers in my head because I hurt her mate. I look down at Skylar and almost feel bad for hurting him. 

 “Skylar,” Alpha Victor shouts as he marches onto the field. “What are you doing? I asked Cole and Cal to evaluate Amber’s abilities.”

 “We just wanted to spar with our mate, Dad,” Tyler speaks up.

 Skylar looks up at me with a glare, “Bitch,” He mutters.

 “I need you two in the office, so hit the showers and get some breakfast. Meet me in the office in half an hour,” Victor orders the twins while helping Skylar to his feet.

 Skylar leans on Tyler while still glaring at me.

 I don’t let it affect me and fold my arms and smirk at them.

 “Amber, continue working with the Walkers, please,” Victor tells me.

 I look over at Cal and smile. I can sense anger from Skylar, but I don’t care. 

 Cal nods, and I follow him to another part of the field. Lilith is angry that I didn’t even say goodbye to the twins. 

 “You are the twins’ mate?” Cal sputters. “Like actual mate?”

 I shrug, “I guess.” We stop at a table with water and sports drinks. I pick up a bottle and squirt cold water into my mouth. 

 “I knew they all went to another pack,” Cal shakes his head. “You guys don’t seem to be all that close.”

 “We aren’t. I don’t even know why I am here,” I sigh. “They have a chosen mate and don’t want me.”

 “That’s hard to believe,” Cal snorts. “I couldn’t imagine having a mate as beautiful as you and not wanting her.”

 “It’s okay,” I shrug. “I don’t want them either.”

 “Callen,” Cole walks up to us. “I need you to spar with Amber for a bit,” He looks at me. “Are you good to go?”

 I am a little sore and bruised from sparring with the twins, “I can go a few more rounds,” I smirk at Cal.

 Cole gives us both a look, “Keep it professional,” He grumbles. 

 I set my bottle down and follow Cal back onto the field. I put up my stance, and he lunges at me. I am quickly knocked to my ass. 

 He laughs and helps me up. “You have to be quicker than that,” He says, taking off his tank top.

 My eyes bug out of my skull as I look at his gleaming muscles. Lilith growls.

 ‘He’s not the one you should be drooling over,’ She snarls.

 ‘Shut up,’ I snarl back.

 “Conversation with your wolf?” Cal asks as I lunge at him.

 My fist connects with his jaw, and he grunts, “Yeah.”

 “Mine is being quite vocal, too,” He laughs and counters my punch.

 “Really?” I ask as I sweep my leg, trying to knock him down.

 “Yeah, Roman thinks you are gorgeous,” Cal grins, showing his white teeth.

 “Really?” I laugh.

 We throw a few punches, and Cal wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me close. I don’t feel the same sparks I did with Skylar, but I look him in the eyes. Lilith growls as he leans in.

 “Callen!” Cole barks. “That’s enough.”

 Cal sighs and lets me go.

 Cole limps over to us, “That’s all we need today, Amber. Come see me at the same time tomorrow morning,” He glances at Cal. “I need to talk to you.”

 “Can we hang out later?” Cal asks, and I nod.

 “Sure, that would be nice,” I lean toward him, hoping for a kiss.

 Cal leans in also, “Callen Scott Walker!” Cole barks. 

 Cal huffs, “I better follow the old man,” He touches my arm and walks away.

 My eyes linger on him for a moment. 

 ‘He’s not your mate,’ Lilith growls.

 I roll my eyes and walk back to the packhouse. My mind is a mess. I know I shouldn’t allow myself to be taken by Cal, but I can’t help it. The twins have made it abundantly clear that I am nothing to them. I never wanted a mate anyways, but I can see myself with Cal. 

 ‘No, you will not be with Cal,’ Lilith growls.

 I push her to the back of my mind as I enter the packhouse. I hurry upstairs and go to my room to shower. After a long shower to soothe my sore body, I put on a pair of old jeans and a light pink t-shirt. My stomach rumbles a little, and I wonder if there is still food in the dining hall.

 I enter the dining hall, and a few dozen people are sitting at long tables. There is a buffet full of food on one side of the room.

 “Amber!” Cal calls to me. He is sitting with a few others, so I stroll over.

 “I see your father let you go,” I laugh.

 He shrugs, “He just needed to talk.”

 “About what?” I wonder.

 “Don’t worry about it,” He smiles. 

 The other men are all staring at me.

 “You weren’t kidding, Cal,” A thinner black male tells Cal.

 “Guys, this is Amber Payne,” Cal introduces me. “These are my friends,” He points to the males at the table. “That is Chaz,” He gestures to the black man. “Then there is Everett, Jett, and Fly.”

 I wave at the others, “Hi.”

 “Where did you come from?” Everett, another black male, asks me.

 “Shadow Winds,” I respond, and they all gasp.

 “You know Alpha Henry Martin?” Jett asks. He appears to be Asian with black hair and brown eyes.

 “He’s my uncle,” I smirk as my stomach growls.

 “The food is over there,” Cal points to the buffet. “There should be some stuff left.”

 “I’ll be right back,” I nod and head over to the buffet. The acrid smell of perfume makes me look over, and I see Savannah, the twin’s chosen mate. She is spooning some scrambled eggs onto a plate and appears upset. 

 Savannah glances over at me. I smile softly at her, and she returns the smile. I am not sure what to say to her, so I concentrate on the food. There is an egg scramble and lots of meat. I take some eggs, a pile of bacon, and a couple of danishes. I walk back to the table and sit down.

 “So, Alpha Henry Martin is your uncle?” Fly asks. He is a little older than the others, with a buzz cut and blue eyes.

 “Yeah,” I respond. “My mother was his sister,” I say. “My father is the Gamma.”

 “Wow,” a few of the guys express. 

 “So, what the hell are you doing here?” Everett asks.

 “She’s the twins-“ Cal starts to say, but I elbow him hard.

 “I am here to help with training,” I blurt out and give Cal a look. 

 “We could use the help,” Chaz laughs.

 “So, do you think you have what it takes to train us?” Everett snorts.

 I shrug, “Alpha Victor thinks I do.”

 “Oh, she does,” Cal adds. “I just sparred with her after watching her take on the twins. She even kicked Skylar in the nuts.”

 The guys all laugh. “You kicked Skylar in the nuts?” Everett laughs.

 “Yeah,” I nod. 

 “Damn, props,” Chaz joins in.

 The scent of rain makes me freeze as I see Tyler walk into the hall with the future beta, Ethan. Tyler looks over at me, and I look at my food.

 “Whoa, Tyler is staring right at you, girl,” Jett gestures.

 “Yeah,” I mutter and cram some food into my mouth. Cal lightly elbows me, and I look at him with a smile. 

 I spend the rest of the meal laughing and joking with the guys at the table, especially Cal. Lilith is sullen in my head because I ignored Tyler and made no effort to talk to him.

 “Ready to go hang out in the game room?” Cal asks as we clean up our plates.

 “Sure,” I respond.

 “I have the day off,” Cal laughs.

 “Awesome.”

 On our way to the game room, we are stopped by the gamma. “Hello, Amber,” He nods at me. “I am Tony Diaz, the Gamma,” He holds out his hand to me. There is a young man who resembles Tony standing beside him.

 “Hi, I shake his hand. My father is the Gamma at Shadow Winds,” I respond.

 “I know. Flynt is legendary,” He grins.

 I let out a laugh, “Really? My Dad?”

 “He was a member of the Elite Squad,” Tony remarks.

 “Really?” I narrow my eyes, “Dad never told me about that.”

 Tony shrugs and looks at the other male, “This is my son, Oscar.”

 “Hey, nice to meet you,” Oscar grins at me. He is a little shorter than his father, with black hair and dark brown eyes. “I heard you kicked Skylar in the nuts.”

 “I did,” I laugh.

 “Oscar,” Tony drawls. 

 “We are going to the game room,” I announce.

 “I’ll join you. I don’t have anything else to do, right, Dad?” Oscar looks at Tony.

 “Not right now,” Tony responds. “I need you to help me with patrols later.”

 “I won’t be late,” Oscar fake salutes his father.

 “You better now,” Tony gives him a serious look. “Have fun.” He nods at us and walks away.

 We finally get to the game room, and it is enormous. It has six pool tables, an arcade, dartboards, and all sorts of things to do. I look around in amazement.

 “So, what’s your game?” Cal asks.

 “How about pool?” I suggest and head for an empty table.

 We divide up into teams. Cal and I go first. The guys look on in amazement when I break and sink several balls. 

 “Damn, I should have picked her,” Everett snorts and looks at Chaz, who is up next.

 Chaz misses a shot, and Everett grumbles, “I do not suck.”

 “You missed an easy shot,” Everett whines. 

 Chaz leans over, “Everett is my cousin, but we are more like brothers.”

 “Not when you shoot that shitty,” Everett growls.

 I play a few games with the guys. I find myself easily making friends with the warriors while getting closer to Cal. He keeps putting his hand over mine when I attempt a shot.

 “Your hands are so soft,” He remarks.

 “Thanks,” I blush.

 ‘Stop it,’ Lilith snarls viciously.

 I ignore her and keep my eyes on Cal. 

 “How about darts?” Cal suggests with a waggle of his eyebrows.

 “Sure,” I smirk.

 We play a few games with the other guys. Cal continues to touch me, which only enrages Lilith. He looks at me with lust in his eyes. He knows the twins are my mates but doesn’t seem to care. We are playing a dangerous game, and I can’t help but play.

 Cal wraps his arm around my shoulders while we are bullshitting with the other warriors, and I sense anger. But not from Cal. Lilith grumbles and curses, but I don’t listen to her. I lean into Cal as the scent of rain and forest hits me.

 “GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF OUR MATE!” Skylar bellows suddenly. He is standing just inside the door with Tyler behind him.

 Cal drops his arm and backs away from me.

 “I AM NOT YOUR FUCKING MATE!” I roar at Skylar and storm out of the room with the twins behind me.
