The Rejected Wolf

              “Mate.”

Liliana and Natasha spent the whole day in her room watching Netflix and eating junk food. Lili had been on a diet for the past several months, after finding out her mate was Killian; a man that hated her she felt she had a right to wallow. Everyone knew wallowing included ice cream and chocolate.

 Tula was being quite, which wasn’t like her. Lili knew Tula was upset. When she was a little girl she had always dreamed of finding love with her mate and having several children; having that picture perfect family. However, as she got older, and her father and Olivia drilling in the fact that was nothing but a fat waste of space her dream started to fade. Lili knew the likelihood her mate accepting her was low especially since her father wouldn’t. 

 Her mother loved her, but Dave was her mate, and I guess that bond surpasses motherhood. Lili was blessed to have a good mother in her life, that believed she was sick when no one else did.

 When Tula woke up, Lili finally had some one who believed in her, loved her, and made her feel like she was worth of being loved. so she foolishly let herself hope that maybe she could have a mate and children like she used to dream of. Honestly it it was Tula Who had gotten the raw end of the deal, cause Tula told her that Kia, Killian’s wolf wants us as his mate. It’s just Killian and Who doesn’t want us. 

 “He’s just a dumb human.” Tula said

 “He really is.” She replied with a small laugh.

 “We need to focus on our shift tonight. Worry about our mate later.” 

 “True, I’m excited, and worried at the same time.” Lili confided.

 “Me too,” Tula stated. Lili smiled wishing she could hug her wolf.

 Liliana didn’t know when she would shift, her wolf only told her she needed to do it in the presence of Svetlana. 

 “Why Tula?”

 “She is much older than she appears. She has recently developed healing abilities, we may need her help.”

 “How old?” 

 “Close go three hundred.”

 “Wow, no wonder she couldn’t wait for her mate, that’s a long time.” Tula chuffed in response.

 

 It was around five or so when the doorbell rang, the girls turned the tv off and headed down the stairs. As expected there stood Nat’s mother Svetlana and Delta Jackson talking about Liliana’s shift this evening. The two adults turned to Liliana,

 “Any idea when you may be shifting?”

 “Your shift must be under the moons rays.”

 “All my wolf says is that I must shift under the moonlight, but that’s normal for us wolfs, she’s being oddly quite about it.” 

 The group of four headed out to the woods when the moon started to rise in the night sky, not far from Svetlana’s small cabin. Lili was worried about Natasha tagging along. Lili was worried about possibly hurting her during her shift, but her wolf took offense to that.

 “She along with Penelope is one of our few true friends. Even though she isn’t a wolf I would never hurt her.” 

 “I know you won’t on purpose Tula, but first shifts can be unpredictable, I heard stories of some wolves going rogue immediately and going on a killing spree,”

 “Who tells these dumb stories? We wolfs would never do that newly shifted or Not.” Liliana laughed in her head.

 “I don’t know, they are just stories.”

 “Here is a good spot,” Jackson called out a few feet away from them.

 

 

 When the pain started it took the breath out of her. It was like the pain of when her wolf awaken but all over her body. The pain so so sudden and intense that she threw up. She continued to throw up everything she ate, until her stomach was empty, and then she just dry heaved. Through the buzzing of her ears she heard Natasha ask Jackson if this is normal.

 “I’ve never seen it before.” Jackson said sounding concerned.

 “That doesn’t answer my question.”

 “Cause I don’t know.” She could hear them a bit better as Natasha placed her hands on Liliana’s body. She started to feel some of the pain fade, but not by much.

 “Breathe Liliana you have to breathe,” she heard Jackson say as he gripped her hand. Part of Jackson’s training was meditation, it was really helping her now. It helped her to keep her focus on her breathing, on listening to her wolf’s voice who was coaching her through her first shift.

 “Squeeze my hand, concentrate on that as you concentrate on your breathing.” Lili listened to Jackson’s voice and followed his directions. The pain seemed to go into her bones, while she heard that the pain of the first shift was intense as it was all of your bones being broken and reshaping at once. However this pain seemed different, it didn’t seem like her bones were being broken. It was as if her bones were on fire. She couldn’t hold in the scream. 

 “Lili what is it?” Natasha asked.

 “Burning! It feels like I am on fire! My bones? Is this normal?” 

 Liliana was in too much pain to see the look between Jackson and Svetlana. Svetlana pushed a bit more healing into Liliana, and her screaming stopped but you could see Lili was in agony. Sweat was pouring down her face.

 “I’m not sure how long I can keep this up, I just developed my healing abilities.”

 “Conserve them, we don’t know how long until she completes her first shift.” Jackson told the witch. You could tell Svetlana dialed her powers back as Liliana started to cry out, Natasha took her head and cradled it in her lap.

 “How long will this take?” Natasha asked.

 “I don’t know, the longest first shift recorded has been twenty-five minutes, and he was supposed to be the strongest alpha the werewolf world has ever known. It’s already been fifteen minutes.” Jackson looked down at the girl who he has come to think of as his own daughter with worry in his eyes. 

 

 Lili didn’t think she would survive the pain much longer. 

 “We can do it Liliana, you are strong enough.” Tula told her. Liliana finally started to feel her bones start to crack.

 “Stop Fitz she’s changing.” Jackson said. She felt Svetlana hands leave here and immediately left out a pained cry.

 “Why? Lili needs help.” Natasha cried out.

 “No Natasha he’s right, my healing abilities could interfere with her shifting correctly if I accidentally heal a bone.”

 

 You can do this we are almost in our true form.” Tula said as more bones started to break. She felt fur start to grow, and her groans and screams turned into animalistic howls. 

 Jackson looked on as he saw the most beautiful she-wolf he had ever seen. She was a beautiful light grey wolf, almost white. She was slightly larger than the average she-wolf but no where near as large as an alpha wolf. Jackson didn’t understand why her shift was so painful

 “She has been chosen by the moon goddess,” his wolf told him. Jackson lost his concentration when Liliana started bounding around him in circles. He laughed at her enthusiasm.

 “All right, all right I am going to go behind the tree and shift, and then we can go for a run.” Jackson went behind a tree, and felt sadness run through him. A newly turned wolves first run is supposed to be special, the whole pack is meant to go on a run together to welcome its newest member. Lili doesn’t get that, she also didn’t get her parents or mate to witness her first shift, he didn’t understand, he only felt sorrow for the girl who meant so much to him. He heard little yips, and smiled at her impatience. He quickly stripped and turned into his brown wolf, and quickly bounds of with Liliana into the forest.

 

 Killian POV

 

 Killian was out for a run trying to get his mess of a brain in order when he heard the screams. He was on the edge of the packs territory so he thought it might be rouges attacking. 

 “Mate in pain,” his wolf said, and that’s all it took for him to take off in a dead sprint to the source of the screams.

 However, before he could get there his wolf told him to stop,

 “Why?”

 “Mate shifting.”

 “Shit I forgot.”

 “Yeah you are a shitty mate.” His wolf told him. 

 “Gee thanks,” he replied but couldn’t deny the accusation. Killian had already stopped running when his wolf told him to and was now slowly approaching a clearing. He saw Jackson, as well as the mother daughter witch duo surrounding his mate. He didn’t understand where were her parents, and why was she in so much pain? 

 “Get closer,” Kai told him.

 “Well I can’t get too much closer, I don’t want them to know I’m here.”

 “Mate’s pain will ease in our presence,” Kai replied.

 “Why is she in so much pain?” He asked as he laid down on his belly and started inching closer.

 “I told you, mate is special,” Killian mentally rolled his eyes at that but didn’t say anything. Of course he thinks his mate is special, it’s their mate! While he may have misjudged her for a long time, but they doesn’t necessarily mean that she is Luna material.

 “You are wrong, pay attention, does this seem normal to you?” Kai said and for once he did pay attention to his wolf. He was right, this shift had been taking a very long time, every shift he had witnessed had been at most ten minutes tops. He had been here longer than that. 

 He was really getting worried about her, yes he was an asshole but that didn’t mean he wanted her to die, when he heard Jackson tell Natasha mother to halt the healing. The logic behind it made sense but that didn’t mean he liked it, especially when Liliana’s screams got worse,

 “Get closer to mate.” He crept a bit closer. Then the most beautiful wolf he’d ever seen became visible to him. She was a light grey wolf, almost white. She was about the size of Seth’s wolf, a beta; was that why it had been so painful for her?

 “Delta is coming.” Killian hurriedly scurried into a hiding spot watching in secret as he saw delta Jackson go and shift behind a tree. He had to bury a growl of jealousy, he should be the one taking the first run with his mate. 

 “You ran from mate, live with your choice,” Kia told him as he watched his mate bounded around the former Delta like a puppy. Then the pair of wolf’s took off like a shot in the night. Killian turned around with a heavy heart.
