Derek's Remorse.

Lindsey's POV



I stared at myself in the mirror, barely recognizing myself. I was clad in a dark purple cocktail dress, that had spaghetti straps and was tight along the bodice before flaring down to my hips. My long brown hair was loose down to my bottom and my tiara was placed ever so carefully on my forehead. Beth had applied a smoky effect to my makeup, making me appear even older and more sophisticated than I really was, and I wore black high-heeled kitten heels to go with the dress while clutching a cute black clutch that contained my purse and phone. I looked different from my usual self. More sophisticated, older too. 



Beth gave a happy squeal "give us a little twirl then" she said as I stepped into the living room. I obliged, twirling happily, my father staring at me from the couch in the living room and quite frankly giving me the heebie-jeebies. 

"You look like Corrine" he scowled. 

I frowned, taking that as a compliment. What girl didn't want to look like her mother? Besides, I had seen what little photos there were of my mother and she was beautiful or so I liked to think. 

"She looks stunning, doesn't she Rowan" gushed Beth, grabbing her phone and taking half a dozen photos of me as I tried not to go cross-eyed. 

He grunted. I was hurt but tried not to show it. 

"Now how are you getting there?" asked Beth for the millionth time. 

I rolled my eyes. "He's picking me up and we're going by limo," I said with a smile, moving around the living room and plopping down onto the couch, opposite my father. 

"How sweet" gushed Beth. "What a gentleman this Mathew must be. I can't wait to meet him" she added as I tried not to laugh at her eagerness. My father on the other hand could care less, staring down at his beer bottle morosely. I sighed. I wished he would have at least tried to have played the overprotective father and insisted on meeting Mathew, but I guess that was too much to ask for. 



The doorbell rang and Beth rushed to greet our guest. I hastily got to my feet just as she opened the door to Mathew. My mouth dropped open. He was clad in a tuxedo, covering his tattoo sleeve and his black hair was slicked back with gel. He had removed his chin piercing and while he still had his earrings he looked quite handsome and very much the gentleman. He walked inside as Beth introduced herself. 

"I'm Beth and you must be Mathew" she trilled. But he wasn't paying attention, his eyes were heavily on me. He let out a gasp. 

"You look gorgeous" he murmured and Beth gave me a knowing smile. 

"Have her back by 3 am" my father grunted from the couch surprising the hell out of me. 

Mathew's eyes widened as Beth also nodded and folded her arms across her chest, eyeing the both of us carefully. "Yes, of course, I will sir, Maam" he stammered. 

I laughed. "We'll be back before then, don't worry," I said, taking hold of Mathew's proffered arm and kissing Beth on the cheek "won't we Mathew?"

"We sure will be" he said relieved, escorting me out the door. 

"Have fun" called Beth as she shut the door. 



I glanced at the limousine in awe as Mathew helped me into it, careful to keep my dress from riding up. There were alcoholic beverages in the back and he offered me one as the limo began to drive to our destination but I steadfastly refused. I wanted to be sober for my prom. After seeing the look on my face, he reluctantly put the drink he'd picked up back in its place and stared out the window. I watched the scenery pass by in a flurry of excitement. Mathew grabbed hold of my hand, holding it tightly. 

"Are you excited?" he asked me, his eyes searching mine. 

Excited? I was about to pee my pants with excitement. I was going to prom. Something I never dreamed I would be doing in a million years. I was fairly wriggling in my seat. Tonight was going to be perfect, I just knew it. 

"I'm really excited, but most of all, I'm really glad you asked me," I told him honestly. 

He reached out and placed a stray hair of mine behind my ear. "Trust me I'm glad I asked you too," he said solemnly, his face inches from mine. I sucked in a breath. Was he about to kiss me? I held my breath but to my disappointment, the limo stopped suddenly and both of us realized we'd reached our destination. The prom was being held in the gymnasium at school and then the after-party was being held at the pack house. 



"Let me get out first," he told me softly and hurriedly got out his side as I patiently waited. Then he opened the door to my side and offered his hand to me. "Shall we?" he asked with a grin on his handsome face as I took his hand and let him help me up. We slowly made our way into the school amongst a throng of students, and into the gymnasium where I took in the scene awestruck. The prom committee had done an awesome job of decorating. The theme was a winter wonderland and there was fake snow all over the floor and even on the walls. Snowflakes littered the walls and hung from the ceiling. Snowmen were built on the ground, and the tables were decorated in different shades of blue and white. It was so pretty and so beautiful. I couldn't help glancing around. Even Mathew looked stunned at how much effort had been put into it. 

"It really looks like a winter wonderland," he said with a laugh, helping me towards the tables. "What do you want to do first?"

"Let's grab some refreshments and head to the tables" I suggested, "while they're empty."

"Good idea" he exhaled "how about you grab a seat and I'll grab the drinks?"

I nodded and let go of his hand, making a beeline for an empty table near the outskirts of the dancing area. I sat down and noticed somebody eyeballing me from behind. It was Derek and he looked pissed, his eyes raking me up and down, a disgusted look on his face. What was his problem? Tiffany was next to him and she was eyeing me too but with a small smile on her face as she spoke to Derek, waving her arms around wildly. I wasn't surprised to see her wearing the same dress as was on her posters and tiara. She looked beautiful I had to admit. 



Mathew slid a drink in front of me and I eyed it skeptically. It was punch. I sniffed it. "It's not been spiked yet" laughed Mathew "I checked."

I grinned and took a sip, enjoying the fruity taste as it slid down my throat. "Mmmm" I moaned in ecstasy. It tasted really good. 

Mathew choked on his drink. "Geez, warn someone before you make a noise like that" he chided me. I blushed bright red and he laughed again. 

"Get your mind out of the gutter" I scolded him. 

Tiffany walked past, jolting my arm and causing me to splash some of my drink on my dress. She blinked at me innocently as I tried to mop some of it up, Mathew frowning at her. "Tiffany" he snapped "look what you've done."

Derek was behind her. "It was an accident," he said bored "wasn't it Tiffany?"

"Yeah, sorry about that," she said insincerely and I scowled at her. Accident my ass I thought fuming, she'd done it on purpose. I was tempted to throw the rest of my drink at her and for a moment my hand tightened around the glass. Something must have warned Mathew what I was thinking because he put a hand on my arm. "Hey" he whispered, tilting his head towards Tiffany "she's not worth it Lindsey, come on now. Let go of the glass."

I pouted but I let go of the glass, glaring as Tiffany and Derek walked away. "One day she's going to pick on the wrong person" I threatened and he nodded. 

"Let's just try to enjoy ourselves," he said with a smile "and not worry about them. Don't let them spoil our night."

I relaxed and smiled at him.



I drank the rest of my punch, enjoying myself as I watched the students begin to get up and dance to the slow beat of the music. I was wistful, shooting glances at Mathew wondering if I should ask him to dance. Would he if I asked him? Or would it make him uncomfortable? Maybe he didn't like to dance? Maybe I should just leave him alone? My foot was tapping to the music now and Mathew noticed my sidelong glances. 

"Something tells me you would like to dance," he said lowly.

I bit my lip embarrassed. "We don't have to, not if you don't want to."

He got up in response and held his hand out to me. I took it and he led me onto the dance floor, putting his hand on my waist and the other one holding my hand, pulling me in close to him. The music was slow and we swayed to the beat, both of us looking at each other, everyone else fading into the background. It was like there were only the two of us on that dance floor. My heart was racing, my hands were clammy. My breath was uneven and shallow. Our faces moved closer together and then, our lips were touching, pressing gently together, Mathew's hand touching the back of my neck as he held me in place, his tongue diving inside to caress mine as I let out a gentle moan. Time stood still. We continued to sway, our tongues touching one another until he finally pulled back, his eyes shining. "Sorry, I should have asked for permission" he whispered, blushing. 

"I give you permission," I said back without thinking and he laughed, pulling me back in tight, and then the music stopped, all of us looking towards the stage where the Principal was standing and holding a microphone. 



"Good evening ladies and gentlemen," he said with a laugh as everyone began to holler and clap at him "I hope that everyone is enjoying their evening and their prom. Now I'm sure that you are all dying to know who your prom king and prom queen is and the votes have all been tallied and collected."

I could care less who the prom king and queen was but everyone was beginning to move off the dance floor, so Mathew and I began to follow them, sitting back down at the table and watching the goings on with some interest. 

"If I could have all the candidates come forward please," said the Principal, and everyone, Tiffany and the others, Derek and the men who had participated, all walked to the front and paused. 

"Ladies and Gentleman please welcome your new Prom Queen and Prom King Tiffany and Derek" announced the Principal as Tiffany let out a giant squeal, a tiara placed on her head, while a crown was placed on Derek's. 

They walked hand in hand to the dance floor, Tiffany beaming at everyone before the slow music started and they began to dance with each other. It looked romantic and sweet. Except for the look of resignation on Derek's face that is. 



"Well he looks incredibly satisfied" joked Mathew as I giggled. 

"No big surprises that they are prom king and queen," I said letting out a breath I was holding. 

"Did you want to be prom queen?" asked Mathew and I shook my head laughing. 

"As if that would happen in a million years," I said a bit bitterly "nobody would vote for an omega." It was nothing but the stone-cold truth. He frowned. 

Mathew reached across the table and took hold of my hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "For the record Lindsey," he said with a gentle smile and a wink "this person right here, would have voted for you to be prom queen in a heartbeat."

My heart melted.
